I don't recall a month this bad for game officials. It started out with Jim Joyce blowing a call on the last out robbing Armando Galarraga a perfect game. Then came the US World Cup games and 2 very critical calls wrongfully negating US goals. (one of the big peeves US sports fans have with soccer is the lack of scoring. So what does FIFA do negate some of the few goals scored.) Then yesterday, the Tigers were the victims of another bad call when an obviously way outside pitch was called a strike punching Johnny Damond's ticket rather than a walk tieing the game in the 9th. (It was a very hot day in Atlanta and my opinion is that the ump decided that instead of possible extra innings he was ending the game and heading to the air conditioned club house and a few beers.) Then today in two separate World Cup Games we say a goal by England disallowed (replays showed the ball clearly in the goal by at least a foot if not two) and an offside goal scored by Argentina. FIFA should be embarassed but I doubt they are. All I can say is FI...FA....FU!
I can't believe they don't use replay in the World Cup. Same thing for Baseball. I remember a few years ago they experimented with using some sort of overhead camera on home plate, not as instant replay but supposedly as a educational tool for umps to help standardize the strike zone. I wonder what happened to that.
FIFA has come up with a solution to the problem. They are going to censor what is shown on the Jumbotrons inorder to promote harmony and good feelings about the refs! FIFA Solves Problem
