Now that Gundy has decided to keep his mullet in the low competition Big 12, who is the guy now? Miss State made a great hire by nabbing Rape State's OC. Maybe it's time to think outside the box. Hell, Arizona State is on the verge of hiring Herm Edwards and that spooks me a bit as a Bruin. If it won't be him, I won't be shocked if it's not Kevin Sumlin, although I think the rigors of P12 life may be a bit of a change for Sumlin.... at least being at A&M, he was used to the travel. Would UT take a shot at either of those 2 if they don't wind up at ASU?
I agree on Miles..... the guy wasn't half bad in the SEC West and would probably do even better in the SEC East and he thoroughly knows all of Tennessee's recruiting grounds, etc.
I can't really think of a reason why Les Miles would be coveted by any big time program. His teams at LSU underachieved with a ton of NFL talent. His last few teams had tremendous offensive talent at the skill positions but he could never develop a QB and wasted that talent.
So did Gene Chizick, so did Larry Coker, it's a big deal but in Les case he had to get a little lucky in the last week to get in as a 2 loss team. Les had a good career that's for sure, but the way it finished out at LSU and his age (64) are reasons that teams aren't really beating down his door.
I see what both sides are saying, but it's like they want experience so guys like KP bring up Les Miles but that is quickly shooed away by those who claim he didn't do enough (despite winning a title). Just seems like to me, luck or not, there's a lot more of these 'sure fire' hires that are made who have never won a title and never will. Meanwhile, there's these championship coaches just sitting on the sideline wondering 'why not me?' Funny that no one is calling for Tyrone Willingham in any of these searches over the past several years As for Tennessee, it looks like they are looking into the SMU coach.... I mean, maybe he's a good guy and all but they'd be better off taking a shot at some of the great coaches in FCS in my opinion.
For Tom and Cindy's sake I hope the rumors I hear are not true. So they offered Gundy $42Mil, and he says "no thanks". He is an OSU alum, so maybe T Boone is gonna come up with a matching raise. From there went on to Jeff Brohm. Talked to Brohm and made an offer he accepted, but the Chancellor said it was too high, and he walked out on the lower offer... Now on to NC State's Doeren...
Has that been confirmed or is it unconfirmed rumor? It's contrary to what we hear up here from Purdue.
That would be a big blow to Purdue if Brohm leaves after only 1 year. I've assumed that he would eventually wind back up at Louisville, which is his Alma Mater. But that he'd be at Purdue for awhile.
The Brohm story mention by Scott was started on Twitter by Clay Travis, the same slug who started the Twitter firestorm in Tenn. about Schiano. He is an attorney who changed careers and morphed into a radio shock joke. I operate under the assumption that any claim he makes is presumed to be ********.
I have decided that the problem is our AD and Tennessee will not get a coach of any standing until we relieve him of his position. I am no longer concerned with issues that I cannot change. Let the chips fall where they may.c
... oh, and the second problem, maybe the largest problem is Jimmy Haslam. As the largest booster in the Tennessee program, Haslam holds the reins to the bit in Currie's mouth. This whole situation has fueled an uprising against Haslam to the point that Tennessee fans have sworn to boycott Pilot/Flying J stations.
I don't think Brohm is going anywhere. He did say that Tenn had contacted him. He is out recruiting and getting ready for a bowl game. I can't imagine Purdue hiring him and giving him the fairly big bucks (mid-range for the B1G) without a pretty good personal assurance that he wouldn't be a one-and-done. (yeah, I know how that assurance thing can work out). Biggest evidence is that recruits have said that he has reassured them that he is not going anywhere. Yeah, I know...other coaches have lied to recruits before...but if that is the case then he is not the man I think he is...nor the coach I want. Purdue will never be an Ohio State or Alabama...but despite our frustration the last few years it should not be a one-and-done stepping stone for directional school coaches....we should be as solid as any middle of the pack B1G or SEC school. Hey, the last major revenue sport coach we got from Western Ky stayed for a while. 8)
Scott, once I saw the Brohm comment, I completely overlooked your lead-in sentence. Stu, I believe that Purdue can be more than a middle of the pack B10 program, but I tend to be an eternal optimist. Time under Brohm will tell.
Agree with Bob. If Clay Travis started the rumor about Brohm then its BS. I heard that stuff from some guys who didn't give a source. Apologies for putting it up.
