This is being billed as a rematch of the game that put Tennessee out in the sweet 16 last year in San Antonio. The battle cry for Tennessee is once again: Remember the Alamo!!! Tennessee 15-1 overall 3-0 in the SEC Ohio State 12-5 overall 3-2 in the Big Ten/Eleven 3:30 p.m. Eastern time Saturday 19-Jan... that is 5:30 a.m. Sunday 20-Jan for me
Wow, OSU moved into the Big 12 and didn't bother to tell me. I guess losing in those championship BCS games makes schools do something wierd.
Oops!!!  I'll correct that right now!!! I did only miss it by one since they do have eleven members!
Tom, I would hardly call this a rematch, we are very young and shooting rather poorly. Our lack rebounding is giving us fits. Lofton should have a field day. Don
I think Tennessee wins this one. They have a very good and experienced team. I'm not looking forward to our games with them right now.
Ohio State is no more the Ohio State of last year's Final than Florida is Florida of last year. Young teams with future potential to be sure but not in the present. Tenn is today's power and is the odds on favorite to win the SEC.
SEC Championship, not NCAA. UConn men and women have won NCAA's and Big East Titles in the same year I'm pretty sure.
That's what I get for reading something on my computer just after waking up from a nap! I don't think think any school has won both men and women basketball in the SEC. Tennessee hasn't won the men's in awhile and their womens team have a lock on SEC basketball right now. Sorry Terry.
3 minutes left and it is still a close game 71 - 64 Tennessee. Terry, I would have to research that. I know that in recent history, last 20 years or so, Tennessee men's team was secondary to the Women's in success until Bruce Pearl entered stage left. I mean a very very very distant second.
29 seconds left and OSU has stormed back to bring the score to within 3 points. Wish I were watching on something other than Sportsline.com.
Looks like the final will be 74 - 69 Tennessee. Looking at the post game recap on Sportsline.com, OSU led from about the 17 minutes left mark until about the 13 minutes left mark. With OSU being such a young team, they sure played lights out in this one.
Congratulations Tom, nice win for the Volunteers! We fared better than I thought, but just made too many critical mistakes down the stretch. Best of luck in the SEC! Don
Chris Lofton's lack of shooting touch this season baffles me. He is not the lights out shooter he was the previous two seasons. It has been suggested that he is not as good of a shooter when his shots are uncontested and that is the reason he is struggling. I think that is ludicrous. Something is wrong and he can't find a rhythm. I am certainly glad he returned for his senior season and maybe he can get it turned around but as it looks now, it seems he may have cost himself some big money in the NBA. If the season ended now, I don't think he would get drafted. You have to be a lights out shooter to get drafted as a 2 guard at his size. I don't know what kind of NBA player he would have been anyway but the buzz he had going into the offseason last year would have certainly helped his case. Maybe a strong showing throughout conference play and the tournament will get that buzz going again. If he does get hot, look out! This team has Final Four potential.
Brett Nelson for Florida found himself in a similar boat after a sensational freshman year in which he scored 15 points vs. #1 Duke enroute to the National Final. He did pretty good in his soph and Jr years and then became a non-factor in his senior season.
Tom, congrats on the victory. The Vols are looking good this year and I like your chances in the SEC. I was quite pleased how our young group fared against a tough, tough Tennessee team. I think the experience of this game will serve us well down the road. I'm still hopeful of a 18-20 wins and a trip to the dance. Good luck to your Vols.
I'm not sure 20 wins will do it in this day of expanded schedules...not without quality wins and not too many "bad" losses.
