Mid way through 1st qtr... it is obvious to me that our defense has room for growth... a LOT of room!
Through 3 quarters, we appear to be making progress on both sides of the ball... offense more than defense. I am happy with what I am seeing to this point. We are playing a quality opponent and still up by 18 going into the 4th quarter. However, NC State was behind 41-14 in one game last year to come bak and win something like 41-56. The game is not over until that clock hits 00:00.
Solid performance for the first game of the year. Several mistakes to work on in practice but encouraging to Tennessee fans. Tennessee wins 35-21
You know why they won?....because I picked 'em...... I always start the first week off in first place....it's just the other 10 laps that kick my ass....
Great win Tom. Always watching the Vols early to see what they will bring in a couple of weeks when they play UF. Offensively Tenn looks like they have a good Qb and a surprise threat in Cordarelle (sp) who reminded me a little of Percy Harvin on that WR sweep. Defensively the Vols give me some hope in that the tackling was pretty poor on many occasions so hopefully the revamped UF offense will be able to move and score the points necessary to outscore the UT offense..
This year, unlike most, we will know more about UF before they come calling. I will be tuned in to the A&M game to see what weeknesses are uncovered by a good A&M team. Florida has had a history of getting a scrimmage game or two to hone their skills before playing UT. I think you are in for a dog fight next Saturday.
I watched Boise State and Michigan State and didn't see this game. However it looks like Tennessee has a good team from the replays I saw and the articles I read.
Well Bill, here is the game in 5 minutes:     <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/PWU35idspKo" frameborder="0"></iframe>
Four interceptions agaist a QB that I believe they said had about 10 all last year gives me hope that we can turn most offenses into a one dimensional running game.
I feel like my pre-season predictions for Tennessee are pretty spot on. Some times surprised me (good and bad), but Tennessee is actually what I thought they'd be. The only 'shocker' was that you have one more play maker at WR than I thought you did. Right now, you guys are in a position to control your destiny for the entire season, especially in the East. Congrats Tom and Cindy!
Hey Corey you never got around to your astute analysis of Florida this season. Were you going to say that we would be lucky to once again grace the Gator Bowl with our presence because if you were it looks like you would have been spot on. Six wins will take some work because I only see 4 on our schedule that seem likely.....counting the one we already have.
I like this Tennessee QB and I agree with Corey's comment that you have a WR who appears to be much better than I knew about.
Jim, We have a wide receiver that didn't know himself that he was that good. Patterson, a Juco transfer was relatively unheard of until this game. Everyone was expecting great things from Hunter. Maybe NC State was thinking that way and not paying much attention to Patterson. One thing that raises my expectations for the future is the praise that the announcers were giving to the DB, David Amerson, wearing #1 of NC State. He is an All American expected to be a first round draft pick. By the time our receivers burned him for the second time for TDs, they were expecting him to drop to second or third round.
Obviously the coaches were impressed with this win. I don't even remember seeing Tennessee in the "Other's Receiving Votes" section of the coaches poll. Now we are the second team in that category and could be called 27th in the poll. Unless the score is 200 - 0 by half time, I don't think this week's game can do anything but hurt our standing.
