“No Respect” locker room bulletin board material being generated by AP Sports writer Ed Shearer. Although Tennessee has not fallen to Kentucky since 1984 and owns the longest winning streak after ND fell to Navy: Shearer says Vol Fans will watch LSU play Georgia
Mandel's (CNNSI) take on this sounds suspiciously like my own except for the final score....I don't think Ky wins by that much... "Can a team with a pair of losses by the scores of 59-20 (Florida) and 41-17 (Alabama) really win the SEC East? The Vols have lived a charmed life, missing LSU and Auburn on their schedule, then pulling out miraculous wins over South Carolina and Vandy. Their good fortune ends here. Kentucky 33, Tennessee 17"
Tennessee 31 Kentucky 23 The bloom is off Kentucky. Not that I would mind if they won, it's just I think they aren't as good as earlier in the season. Tennessee and LSU in the SEC Championship. A rematch of the 2001 Championship where Tennessee was the big favorite and LSU won. This time the shoes will be reversed and Tennessee gets a chance for payback.
Bill, not only are the shoes reversed, Fulmer has his back to the wall. The next three games will tell the tale on the Tennessee career life expectancy for Phil. Notice I said three games. We lose against Kentucky and there is only the bowl game left in the season. We win against Kentucky, and he has two more chances to win back the fans and alumni. I agree with MCG. We do not deserve to have this opportunity. You will not hear this Vol fan crowing about this season no matter how good the results happen to be. We are there because Florida did not take care of business. That is not our fault though. I consider this to be a Florida conspiracy. They are now afraid that Fulmer will be fired so they threw enough games to let us back into this position. Regardless of my pick in the contest, which will be revealed in about 4 hours, I will be cheering on the Vols just like I had wagered all possible points on them.
That Tenn loss in 2001 was the most painful I can remember ever attending in Gainesville because of all of the strange circumstances of that season which I have gone into before....not the least of which is that the game should have been played in September when UF was healthy. Florida had one of it's best teams under Spurrier and it was completely disheartening to see their chances to play for the NC get blown away by bad luck, national disasters and dirty play by FSU a week earlier. ( I think Earnest Graham is currently showing his value to that 2001 UF team by his great play with the Bucs ) I actually enjoyed Tenn losing to LSU in that 2001 SECCG because I never felt the Vols were as good as Florida that year and Tenn benefited greatly by the timing of things. If the Vols get to Atlanta this year it will be due again mostly to their good fortune as Mandel discusses but I have to give them credit also for finding their way somehow to make it there. I obviously do not think Tenn is better than Florida by any stretch this season but they are definitely better at taking advantage of their situation even if it is by the slimmest of room to spare. That doesn't translate into a Vol win over LSU if they do get there because that 2001 lesson that LSU taught to an overrated Tenn team will be brought up lots of times in the week prior to the game. LSU would beat Tenn by three TDs IMHO.
Any given Saturday... Just depends on which team comes to play. If the LSU team that virtually stayed in the locker room against Kentucky shows up, a high school team could be in that game and win. If the Tennessee team that sliced up the Georgia team that whipped Florida shows up, then LSU, at their best, would be in for the fight of their young lives.
uhm <t>if its all the same to you Gator fans..how about the rest of the unwashed masses show up to play the games?<br/> <br/> The bottom line here is, if UT wins today.. they earned it, and you didn't.<br/> <br/> btw, you seen that LSU team? You think they will be UT be 3 tds?</t>
regardless of <r>regardless of the outcome of this game tonight...<br/> <QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> is one of my favorite quotes ever. how do you quantify that? on what basis? head to head opponents? ouija board?<br/> <br/> LSU hasn't shown that '3 TD favorite' killer instinct very often this year.<br/> <br/> Watching how terrible this LSU defense is against a mobile QB, I am not deeply saddened that Oregon's Dixon went down to a season ending knee injury.</r>
I now believe LSU can be beat by Tenn next week. The Tigers will be spent emotionally and they are beat to hell physically and have several injuries after the 3 OT loss to Arkansas today. That was one of the best games I have seen this year no doubt and maybe THE best game.
Tennessee dominates the first half and goes into prevent defense the whole second half. We allow Kentucky to drive it down the field for a chance to win. They are allowed to go 89 yards with a 3 man rush and Woodson having all day to pick apart the secondary. Kentucky almost throws away an opportunity to tie when they hold the ball too long and pass incomplete with only 1 second left for the 19 yard chip shot to tie it. Go Vols!
Win or lose, Eric Ainge played his heart out. Many dropped passes stopped our offense in the second half. Three should have been interceptions were dropped by our DBs. First overtime and Kentucky gets the ball first. Three plays and a TD. This looks like Kentucky’s day.
Well… that should do it. Ball is batted up in the air and intercepted by Kentucky. They only need a field goal in the second OT.
Well, maybe not. Blocked field goal and Kentucky almost rips a Tennessee players head off by the face mask to prevent it being returned for 2 points. 3rd OT.
Kentucky scores the TD and has to go for two. Tennessee intercepts on the two point conversion and fumbles it back into the end zone. It is knocked out of bounds before a Kentucky player can get to it. Kentucky up by 6 and Tennessee on offense.
Tennessee answers with a TD of their own. Tennessee does not make it. Off to the 4th OT. This may be the last game finished tonight.
I have a question: Why was the unsportsmanlike penalty assessed against us when the face mask was not assessed against them? It did not change the game though. Tennessee scores a TD on the very first play in the 4th OT from the 40 yard line and MAKES the two point conversion. Tennessee up 52 to 44 with Kentucky going on offense.
Kentucky drives the ball the full 25 yards to score the TD to bring the score to 52 to 50. The of course must get the two points to send it into the 5th overtime. Woodson fumbles trying to make a play and the Vols win! My fire department brothers have been over to apply the AED three times in the last hour! Sorry Georgia. I know we don’t deserve to go to Atlanta but I’m glad we are.
tom <t>first thing, congrats on winning an epic clash.<br/> <br/> second, i dont believe they actually called the facemask against Kentucky</t>
