Tennessee has a bye week before the game next week with Bama on 23-Oct. My question is: Can we please have a Bye Month instead? If not, Can Bama get a good feeling back by destroying Mississippi by triple digits so that they overlook Tennessee?
No offense to MCG but Alabama will never look past Tennessee. The 3rd (although it is really the 4th Saturday this year) Saturday in October in an annual ritual.
Wait, you mean that Alabama fans look towards the midseason game with Tenn and the season ending game with Auburn, more than a game with MCG's Gators??? Unbelieveable!
KP understands. Bill understands. I understand. MCG has no idea. Alabama and Tennessee has an annual game going back to when my grandpappy was a boy. Having said that, they have also had a rivalry with Auburn for as long. I don't speak for Bama, but I would say that Auburn is more important to them simply because they are in the same division if not for any other reasons. A loss to Auburn hurts their SEC championship hopes more than a loss to Tennessee. Go Bama... Slaughter Ole Piss!
I think it might be a tad more than that, I would bet if Auburn was in the 12Pac and Alabama was in the Big East it'd still be the game that sets the table for Alabama and Auburn fans.
I can agree with that Terry. Although the 3rd Saturday (sometimes 2nd or 4th) in October is special to both universities, I am not so conceited to think that Tennessee is more special than another opponent. Even in the span of years where Bama was down due to sanctions (inappropriate as they were), I am certain that Bama wanted to beat Auburn with more intensity than they did Tennessee.
Absolutely, Tom and Terry. Auburn is special. As I've tried to explain, the winner of the Auburn/Alabama game has a year of trash talking, bragging, ragging, giving your in-laws, cousins, neighbors crap without limits. The records don't matter. The Auburn "rivalry" is a one of a kind for Alabama fans. Tennessee and LSU are rivals but not on that level for us. If we lose to Tennessee or LSU we are pissed but we don't have to live with that loss like a loss to Auburn.
So you guys are asking me to accept that Bama-Tenn is bigger to it's fans than Florida-Ga or Fla-Fla State is to Gator fans. I don't buy that at all. Why would you think that? Let's say UF was the one ranked #1 this season and playing Bama at home in Gainesville two weeks ago. 95% of Gator fans would have said that was a bigger game this year than playing an average to poor and non-ranked Georgia team and I mean at least 95% of Gator fans would have said that....except for maybe Bill just to be a contrarian with MCG. Sorry Tom....Bama has had bigger fish to fry lately.....at least before UF morphed back down to minnow size that is.
Dave, Contrary to your belief that everything in the sports world revolves around the Gators, it does not. As a Tennessee fan, I could care less about Florida/Florida State. The conversation here is about what games Bama fans care the most about. The Auburn game ranks on top. Look at the topic... what do you see... I see nothing about Florida there.
You guys continue to dodge the issue. Fla-Ga is just as big a rivalry traditionally to UF fans as Bama-Tn is to Bama fans......and note I am singling out Bama fans. But......this year Ga is not the bigger rivalry game....does not mean as much as Bama-Fla because Ga is pretty average to poor and has not played UF the last two years running for the SEC Title and also in the defacto national semifinal as has Bama. That same holds true for most Bama fans with regard to the Tenn game vs. the UF game this season because of those same exact reasons. ......at least to those Tide fans able to be honest about it. Now the Auburn game is a different story because as the season wears on Auburn is getting to be more and more of a challenge for Bama on paper and it could decide the West so my guess is that is a bigger game for Bama fans for sure than was Bama-UF.....and keep in mind I am talking pre-game Bama-UF....not in retrospect looking back after the game. Here is another example: In the mid 90s there was no bigger game for Florida than their annual rival FSU because of all of the national success the noles had in those days. Playing Bama would have meant squat then and did mean squat to a Gator fan in those days. We still play FSU and they are still a rival but it has lost it's luster because of FSU's average play in recent seasons.
MCG, who ever said that? You have said repeatedly that the Alabama/Florida game is a bigger rivalry than the Alabama/Auburn and that is just not true. I have never even talked about Florida/Georgia, as a matter of fact I would think that the UF/UGA "rivalry" is bigger than the UF/UA game. That makes my case, UF/UA is a big game but not as big of a rivalry as some other games. MCG, you are confusing big games with rivalries. UF/FSU is a rivalry, UA/AU is a rivalry, UF/UA is a big game the last few years.
KP... what you don't understand is that in MCG's world, the Sun revolves around the Earth... simply because the Earth is where Florida is.
Fair enough assessment Kp. Big games don't necessarily mean big rivalries and sometimes there are games on the schedule bigger than a team's rivalry games.
So Tom.....what is the Vols mental state right now? Georgia surprised me last Sat. with the way they beat Tenn so easily so I have to wonder which team shows up for Bama next week.....the one that almost beat LSU or the one that succumbed to the Dawgs without much of a fight?
A similar question may be which Alabama team shows up. Our defense is suspect and if we don't hand the ball to Ingram and Richardson more so is our offense.
Bama is just fine. The only team left that will cause trouble is the LSU Tigers because once again.......the Tide plays a team that has two weeks off. Although Miles isn't a coach like Spurrier who knows what to do with all that time on his hands.
OK... it is officially Bama week but the only hope for Tennessee fans is to hope that our defense is healed and ready to hold Bama to the under bet. The funny part is that I went to the Yahoo site for our contest to find that Tennessee is listed as the favorite. Then I realized... no lines yet. The home team is always the favorite until the lines are posted. :?
