I don't think this one is an April Fools item. UCLA - Tennessee On Labor Day UCLA game moving to Monday By Dave Hooker (Contact) Originally published 07:58 a.m., April 1, 2008 Updated 02:50 p.m., April 1, 2008 Are you ready for some football? Tennessee apparently is. The Vols and UCLA have agreed to move their game to Labor Day, Monday Sept. 1, a primetime slot that will be filled by the NFL's Monday Night Football a week later. The game was originally scheduled for Sept. 6. ESPN will televise the game nationally, which will kickoff at 8 p.m. eastern. “The opportunity to play unopposed on national television against such a quality opponent as UCLA was something we couldn’t pass up,” UT athletics director Mike Hamilton said in a statement. “It’s a great time slot for a national game of interest like this one.” The Vols will move their game against UAB to Sept. 13, originally an open date. UAB had previously been set as the season opening game to be played on Aug. 30. The Vols play Florida on Sept. 20, the week after the UAB game. UT had had an open date before the Florida game. Hamilton said he consulted with Fulmer before pursuing the change. “I kind of left that up to Phillip and he didn’t have problem with it,” Hamilton said. “From the outset, he was very comfortable with the change.” Fulmer concurred in UT’s release. “I am very excited about the chance to play in the Monday night national spotlight against an outstanding opponent like UCLA,” Fulmer said. “I think it will be a great kickoff to the season and our players and coaches are thrilled with the opportunity.” Hamilton said there was no financial incentive for UT to move the game. Before the schedule change, television executives told the Vols that ABC would carry the UCLA game regionally. Hamilton said a regional ABC game pays the same as a nationally televised ESPN game. “There’s no difference in dollars,” Hamilton said, “just a difference in exposure.” UT leads the series against the Bruins 7-4-2, having won four of the last five dating to 1989. Two of those wins were in Pasadena, including a 30-24 victory behind senior QB Peyton Manning in 1997’s most recent matchup. © 2008, Knoxville News Sentinel Co.
This is true Bill. I am also glad to see the change. It might just be possible for Cindy and I to make that game. Maybe I can even have Diane hold down JO'Co while I rough him up a little!
Bill It is a great trip. We made it in 1994 and 1997. We can hopefully take the time to go again this year.
Well one thing is for sure, Vol fans will find out early about their team with UCLA and the Gators early in the season.
We will play anyone anytime anywhere. The bigger the name the better. I just hope I feel that way after the games!
 Tailgate already in works.... maybe Kim and Rick would like to join us ...... It's just a hop skip and jump for them ......Carne Asada anyone Ummmm Tom Jim is a little big for me to hold down /!
The funniest thing about this to me <r>is...<br/> <br/> that even Florida and Georgia fans will have to admit that for once, they can't say they think the sleaziest coach on the field will be Phil Fulmer. <E></E> <E></E> <E></E><br/> <br/> Slick Rick, Norm Chow, DeWayne 'I'll be back for your job later Ty' Walker et all... UCLA has quite the staff over there now. They have a lot of rebuilding to do and gap filling in west LA but this will be interesting to watch to be sure.</r>
