We put the whole brass section of the band in with 5 minutes left in the third quarter when it was 35 - ZIP. Was Tennessee under rated... or was Cal over rated? I guess we will have to wait and see what happens in the next few games.

We may have to pull the scrubs. Cal scored nd got the 2 point conversion to make the score 35 - 11. It appears that they recovered an onsides kick and have the ball on our 40 yard line 3rd and 10.

We got to the RV park late to find that they don't have cable. By the time I set up the Direct TV, the game will be over. Therefore we are listening on Sirius and the internet. Still 12 minutes left and anything can happen. I am very happy with the offensive productivity. This has been a long time coming. :?

Ohio State still had its 1st string offense on the field with 10 minutes left in the game and the score 35-3. I guess margin of victory is important to the #1 team in the nation.

I commend Fulmer for that move. He was interviewed on Friday and stated "I'm proud of the progress our offense has made. However, from first string to second string, there is a major drop off." After making that statement, and making the decision to give the others game time, that was smart. Our backup QB played the last 20 minutes of the game which will be valuable if we need him down the road.

    Bill,

I need to ask a favor of you. I am certain that we will be able to give more game time to him in the next game. Can you call up to UF and ask them to allow us to do the same in two weeks :?:  8)

Big win by the Vols. What a downer for the always underranked, overlooked PAC.

Actually, more of a downer for Cal. But if there's a team recently that seems to consistently fail to show up for its big games, it's the Bears.

I had Tennessee with 5 points in the Skybox Pick-em. I wish I had been a little more sure.

I had Notre Dame with 8 points. I was beginning to wonder about that one.

    I guess it works out.

The Tenn game score was nothing short of shocking. What a difference having Cutliffe back in town makes. That CAL team was just way over matched, they looked like the team that Texas Tech blew out a couple of years ago in the Holiday Bowl. Tedford is one of the supposed offensive geniuses in college football, and it's not like he had first time QBs on offense.

Congrats to the Vols, Bright Orange Eyes are smiling in Knoxville! :)

Longshore hadn't played since breaking his leg in Cal's opening game last season, and Ayoob provided ample proof last year that he wasn't the answer at QB. Tough for a team with such good running backs and defense to be so woefully lacking at QB.

I guess what makes me wonder about Tedford is that with his reputation I would think his talent evaluation and QB developement would sort of put him the same position that Mike Leach at Texas Tech is, that is that he always seems to have a QB ready to and a couple of good ones on the bench. It seems however that he has a empty cupboard with QB's. I can't believe it's because he can't convince great QB's to come play for him, given his reputation. So something is up he didn't have a good QB last year and he doesn't appear to have a good QB this year. Is it his talent evaluation? Is it his QB coaching accumen is overated?

Tedford got a lot of credit for his work with Kyle Boller, whom he inherited from the prior Cal coach, Tom Holmoe. I'm pretty sure Longshore was a top-five rated QB coming out of high school when he committed to Cal. So go figure.

Ayoob is a jc transfer, and Levy is some joisey schlub who got himself suspended during the summer for hitting a Bay Area bouncer in the head with a pint glass. The joke at the time was that if Ayoob had thrown the glass the bouncer wouldn't have gotten hurt.

It's probably still too early to tell with Longshore, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Levy play against Minnesota.

Was off in Stratford, Ontario Canada the last two days getting cultured at the theatre.

Missed all of the games but I did keep up with the scores via my Blackberry.

I was very impressed that Tenn won in such a dominating statement over Cal and I think without seeing either one that Tenn. is much better than last season and Cal was a tad overrated. I think UF-Tenn will be quite a game....I hope.

Congratz to all Vols on a great win. I watched the entire game and it was an old fashioned beat-down. I empathized with Lou Holtz later in the afternoon, when he was laughing at himself for picking Arkansas over USC. He said, "Next year, I'm going to throw those darn magazines away!" I too was a victim of magazine-itis, along with Scooter (Lee Corso) who picked Cal to win the friggen National Championship!

    Here's what I saw...

Tennessee finally has some offensive coaches who know what they're doing. The Vols always have a great defense and this looks like another good one, but the recent offenses have been clueless...until now. Two weeks ago, Cal had the best set of CBs in the country, but one of them, Tim Mixon, went down for the season. Guess which side Tennessee's passing game picked on all day long? Hint: it was not the side with All-American Daymeion Hughes. They burned the other side for several TDs and several hundred yards. That's smart offense and I'll leave it to the Vol fans to talk about the last time that anyone called their offense "smart."

I still don't believe in Erik Ainge. He was living on the brink of disaster all day. So many of his completions and TD passes were near-interceptions that I lost count. Some of his passes shouldn't have been thrown, but the WRs saved him and turned them into big gains. It looked like a dumb QB in a smart offense. If I were a Vol fan, I'd be celebrating at having a much better team with better offensive schemes, but I wouldn't feel comfortable until Ainge is replaced. He's either reckless or foolish...IMHO.

Cal's story is very simple: they have no QB. Toss out all the preseason nonsense in the magazines. They have several very good players, but they're running a QB-intensive system with 2nd rate QBs! That won't work. Based on what I saw, they're NOT a threat to de-throne USC in the Pac and they just might finish as low as 4th or 5th out here...

    Congratz again!

Florida had a game in '94 at Tenn in which Terry Dean diced Tenn up and appeared to be throwing darts through the Tenn defense. I myself thought Terry got away with a few and later in the season it was proved that he did because ints became such a problem that Spurrier replaced him with Weurffel.

    JO’Co,

Lets wait two weeks to judge Cal. Cal will win their next seven games. Tennessee will win its next game. IF Tennessee gets past Florida in two weeks, Cal does not look so bad. Notice the big if above.

Sid, we had a 28-0 lead at the beginning of the 2nd quarter. If margin of victory was important, Coach could've hung the better part of a hundred on the scoreboard without breaking a sweat. We didn't....from where I was sitting, I saw liberal substitutions on both sides of the ball beginning before half. I would bet that likely the only kids that didn't play were either injured, being red-shirted or sitting for disciplinary reasons.

I wouldn't be so quick to give Cal the win over Oregon.
