... with a hobnail boot. I just hope the chess team doesn't take the field in the second half.
Georgia looks to have come alive in their first drive of the second half. Tennessee looks to have taken a nap. Can Tennessee wake up in time to keep the UGA team from gaining too much momentum? Tennessee is still up 28 – 7 with 4:30 left in the 3rd quarter.
For anyone wondering where I was in the 1st half, I had a 06:00 flight out of Richmond Virginia this morning after getting no sleep last night. Cindy picked me up from the Austin airport at 11:00 this morning and I hit the bed upon arrival at the house. I woke up long enough to see the first score and didn’t wake up again until just before the end of the 1st half with the score at 28 – 0.
I love Tivo. It is being recorded on two receivers just in case something happens to one of them. Tennessee scores again to go up 35 - 7. Less than three minutes left in the 3rd quarter. Hold 'em D!
Big decisive win by Tennessee Tom, congratulations. Now unless the Gators win tonight your team is in charge of their own fate.
Thanks guys. I saw the topic created by MCG and gave my thoughts there. Check them out. Thanks again.
Congrats Tom I missed most of the game as I was engaged in yard and boat maintenance ... as well as a little tree trimming in Cedar Key. Looks like the Vols have the run game back in gear. However, given the current SEC east standings, I'm going to be pulling for these teams on these dates: 10/13/07 Mississippi St. 10/20/07 Alabama 10/27/07 + South Carolina 11/10/07 + Arkansas 11/17/07 + Vanderbilt 11/24/07 Kentucky  I hope you understand.
Terry, I know this was not your intent, but let's not perpetuate TB's attitude by even appearing to bash him. Georgia is a worthy opponent. I feel that my team is better for playing a worthy opponent so tough. If we had beaten a lesser opponent, I would not feel as good about the improvements Tennessee has made. At the beginning of the second half, I was seriously concerned that Georgia would storm back. I am so proud of the Chavis squad in keeping that from happening. Does this take Fulmer off the hot seat? Absolutely not. He has sealed his fate by falling farther and farther behind in his record against Florida. If he is allowed to stay after this year, he is still on the hot seat until he can beat the Gators for two straight years. Then and only then will the burner be turned down to medium heat. I hope Fulmer understands this and turns up the heat on the assistants. We have some of the best training facilities in the nation. We also have reports from alums that still use those facilities. Those reports state that the weight rooms use to be a place where team members competed against each other in order to become stronger and better. Now these same facilities are more like country clubs where people drop by to shoot the crap. Turn these issues around Fulmer. Make every game effort mimic this game against Georgia!
Here are two excerpts from an article: “Former players have concerns” They back up what I have been voicing about lax attitudes at Tennessee. Here is the main concern I have that is reflected in this article:
UT put one on UGA. Not really a surprise. UGA has now lost 6 straight SEC East games, Not even Goff or Donnan achieved that. When will they see the light and fire Mark Richt? He doesn't have Donnans players anymore. He has bad asst coaches that he has refused to fire and no longer does he have the VanGorder defenses to save the day. UGA is really headed down.
Tenn may have their "fate in their hands" but in this year's SEC that is a very tentative proposition in early October. I do not believe Tenn can escape the rest of their season without a loss in the SEC and by the same token I certainly don't think UF is a shoo in to do so either. This thing is a crapshoot.
IF, and notice that is a BIG IF, Tennessee plays like they did against Georgia, we will win out. If, notice no large font, we play like we did against Florida, we may not win another game. I understand that.
I was incredibly impressed with the total effort Tennessee laid on the line on Saturday. I haven't seen a Tennessee team play that well in all phases in quite some time. It may be a crazy comparison but I dare say the defense hasn't swarmed that well since the '98 season. They still missed some tackles but you can afford to when you've got 3 teammates there to back you up. The line blocked well and we know that Erik Ainge is going to play well. If Tennessee can blow away MSU (no easy task) then I'll start to get excited. Let's see if the coaching staff can make the team sustain the level of play we saw on Saturday. The East is a jumbled mess and I think it's anyone's to win OR lose.
Funny thing is Tom that if Florida played the rest of the year as they did in defeat vs. LSU I think UF will win the SEC Championship. That is asking for a whole lot.
