Tom, My condolences on a tough loss. Last years Michigan game left me with that same feeling.

Here's something interesting, not that it would have made much difference, but the LSU coach could have used a few pointers from Wisconsin coach on how to run out a clock on a kickoff.

What he did was perfectly legal within the framework of the rules.

I wonder if Miles knew he could do that? The announcers on the game seemed to say that the refs had the option of putting the time back on the clock but didn't do it. I wonder if they didn't know they could do it, or were the announcers wrong.

Also is that a penalty that the recieving team has to accept?

The rule is a bad rule and needs to be changed or they should have a remedy like offsides is like kicking it out of bounds, ball to the recieving team at the 35.

    Terry

ps...what's the word on JoePa that was a pretty good hit he took even for a young coach much less a 79 y/o. one.

It would appear to me that no time should have come off the clock since the penalty occured BEFORE the ball was kicked.

In the rulebook there's also a code of ethics that overides? certain type of plays not covered in the rulebook. It's very wishy washy because it also covers things like intentional penalties which we never see any enforcement of, like deliberate holding , deliberate pass inteference etc.
situations where getting a penalty helps instead of hinders you.

As far as I know, Joe has a hyperextended knee.

There was also a big uproar over comments made by Craig James
about Joe being an old fart and not taking his geritol just before halftime.

Should be interesting to see if James is fired or if he gets away with just an apology.

The way I see it, he should be fired. They fire announcers for making racist remarks. Bigoted remarks that are age related are no different in my book. He didn't just offend Joe Paterno, but every senior citizen who watched. We should all be that lucky to live that long let alone be productive at his age.
