Now the Congressional Budget Office has come out with its forecast of the impact if we take Obama's advice to implement the so-called "Buffet Rule" and impose a flat 30% tax on all people with incomes of $1 million or more. The result? With this increased tax revenue accumulated over ten years we would be able to fund normal government operations for about 5 days! And that's based on what we spend today!! Now that that sound bite has been debunked can we stop with the devisive politics and class warfare and start addressing the real problems. Hard to believe anyone ever bought into that line of crap.
The Ten Cannots This is from a pamphlet by a Presbyterian minister, William J. H. Boetcker (1873-1962) and entitled The Ten Cannots. It was originally published in 1916 but its message is very fitting to us today You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot help little men by tearing down big men. You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot establish sound security on borrowed money. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn. You cannot build character and courage by destroying men’s initiative and independence. And you cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they can and should do for themselves.
Hmmmm, if you change all the "cannot"s into "cans", you have pretty much captured the essence of the Obama lib/dem philosophy! :?
Imagine if JFK were around today and uttered "Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country" He would be laughed out of the Democratic party. He would probably be a Republican.
re: JFK He would have to be a Republican or retire from public life. He created jobs by initiating one of the largest tax cuts in American history. He was also firmly on the record as opposing afirmitive action and racial preferences. He threatened large labor unions such as the Steelworkers, Mineworkers and Longshoremen. His Department of Justice prosecuted, harrassed and deported gangsters and racketeers in numerous unions and businesses; including the Teamsters. He believed in a strong national defense and supported nearly every military request that came to his desk. His unmitigated support of the space program launched us to the moon and his unflinching deterrence of Soviet expansion helped to win the Cold War. They don't make Democrats like that anymore.

What's strangling our economy is higher everyday expenses like healthcare, energy, insurances, food and the continuous rip-off of cash by city, state and local governments in the form of taxes, fees, parking tickets, etc. This last category occurred to me as I started to ponder all of the ways in which you can get a parking ticket around here and the massive increase in the fine if not paid right away. That coupled with innovations like St. Pete has in their red light system whereby if you run through a yellow but don't quite make it there are several intersections where your license plate is photo snapped and they mail you a 150.00 ticket!!! This happened to my son recently and because the car is registered to me I have to get involved with the damned thing. Hell....I threw a quarter into a toll basket near here....took off before it landed at the bottom of the basket and lo and behold I received a 40.00 ticket in the mail complete with the photo of my car "running" a toll booth. The bottom line is that so many entities in this country are going broke that they have resorted to going for broke......on our wallets. As long as that is happening and essentials keep climbing through the roof and incomes remain as stagnant as they are our economy is going nowhere.
People in my business have dubbed it the "case of the missing investment" recovery. Relative to past business cycles/recovery phases, our economy is missing some $200 Billion in business fixed investment....i.e, new plant and equipment, technology, etc. The primary culprit is the massive uncertainty over the likely impact the administration's new policies - healthcare, income taxes, financial regulation and the continued war on success. That they have yet to act to address the culprit, nor appreciate its impact on the economy is further evidence of a clueless DC political class so pathetically, irretrievably out of touch with the real world, believing as they do that they alone can wave a magic legislation wand and control our destiny....the joke is on us.
The alternative of course is to try to reduce expenditures and reduce payroll costs. They are doing that in Wisconsin. Note who is behind the recall petition. Governmental employes would rather rip off the citizenry than take hits like those in the private sector due.
This economy is strangled by a lack equity. And its going to keep us down. Oh, and we have more people taking than we have making.
George....not everyone is going to be a business owner or a high level executive with stock options....or a money manipulator who reaps great personal rewards but contributes next to nothing to the economy. There has to be a middle class of the vast majority of Americans who feed the system with their purchases, etc. They ( we) are being bled dry while the high pay necessary to overcome the cash drain just isn't there.
MCG, You don't understand who the middle class is. The largest number of American workers are people who own their own business or work for someone else who does. Here in the People's Republic of California, small business owners already pay 2/3rds of all the revenue that the state takes in, so increasing their taxes hurts everyone. Even the LA Times is beginning to wonder about the crackpot theories of the Left. The latest scandal is that we don't have an illegal alien problem anymore. The Times reports that more aliens are leaving the state than coming in for the first time in history. It's not a mystery as to why: there's no jobs here...
Not surprising......being part of that 99% is losing it's luster for those foreigners that might ponder coming here.
That's right George.... But I hear there's a huge increase in illegal millionaires sneaking in to the U.S.  8)
