I saw the point made recently (maybe by Gaterz?) that the Pac10 and the Big10 don't go the way of the super conference so that it can maintain the claim that the 2nd best team in the country comes from that conference. My reply to that: Nuts. I dont blame some conferences for selling their souls to follow Czar Kramer down the well to help fill the pockets for the 'Super' Conferences. Twice we have seen a Big 12 team that didn't win its conference title game get a shot at the National Title. Twice it came at the expense of a Pac10 champion. The end result? Twice the Pac10 team soundly beat its bowl opponent and twice the 'BCS title opponent' was beaten in the big game. So if anything, it could be said the incentive for joining a "Super Conference" is that you don't actually have to win your conference to get a shot at the national title. Or, maybe just maybe, the real reason for super conference is the cash grab under the guise of seeking a 'true national champion and a step towards a playoff.' You get that big pay day of a conference title game and it allows your teams to justify dummying down their non-con schedules because you have the 'ends justify the means' punctuation of a conference title game. Its all bull, its all about the money. And if you dont know that by now, you should.
