I used to tell you guys back in Meyer's heyday at UF....the national championship days of Tebow......that I was only reposting articles written by the national media who thought Florida to be a very relevant team to write about at the time. Now.....not so much. Not so much to the point where I have to start this topic on my own about the Gator's lack of relevancy. That's being pretty irrelevant! But at least we have a shot at yet a 2nd consecutive Gator Bowl DVD according to College Football News!!! : http://cfn.scout.com/2/1169806.html My opinion is we have a better team than the Gator Bowl....but the schedule may send us back to the Outback Bowl with an outside shot at the Cap One.
..I thought so George. But ND is ND as long as they put living breathing players on the field so some press will always be the case.
Think positive. After two consecutive national championships in the last decade, it's relevant that Florida has become irrelevant. What Florida now is going through is not unlike to what ND went through in the years immediately following Lou Holtz' exit. Unfortunately in ND's case, it's lasted to this day. Hopefully for Florida it's a temporary downturn from the recent past elite status. Time will tell. It's my personal opinion that certain coaches have the "it" factor. In recent years, Holtz, Meyer, Tressel, Saban, etc., have taken teams from so-so to perennial national championship contenders. It remains to be seen if Muschamp and Kelly have "it," but in Muschamp's case, it's going to be difficult to achieve in a short time what Meyer accomplished.
Too much talent in Fla, even if FSU and Miami are also good. Gators will always have the talent to be great, key is having a coach. USC always had talent in the years after Mckay/Robinson but they just had OK coaches who produced a bunch of ok teams..then they hit the jackpot with Pete Carroll....we'll see if their luck continues under Kiffin.
...I see what you're doin there...... I'll believe Kiffie can win something....when he wins something. Muschamp has so far been a great recruiter....but so was Ron Zook. The difference so far between the two is that Zook could win the very biggest of games even though he had zilch consistency. He did have UF at a so-so level....but obviously for more than a decade the Gators were an elite team under Spurrier. If Muschamp continues to recruit well but can't win the big one then he will not last more than three more years at UF counting this one I predict. And that would mimic the ND situation after Holtz and I hope we don't fall into that trap.
Because of their natural recruiting advantages, some schools have no excuse to lose. Florida is certainly one of those teams.
Interesting timing that I brought up Ron Zook and there is an article on Zook and his time at UF over on Gatorsports.com: http://www.gatorsports.com/article/20120711/ARTICLES/120719848?p=5&tc=pg "“Will's going to do an extremely good job,” Zook said. “He's going to do fine. People are just going to have to give him some time. “The talent level is not where it needs to be, but Will will do that. He'll get the guys in there, there's no question. “Will's a great football coach, he's a great recruiter (and) he's a great person. He's exactly the kind of person the University of Florida needs.” If Zook sounds a little bit like an analyst, well, that's because he is one. This fall, Zook will resume a role with CBS Sports that began with National Signing Day coverage last February."
Sid, I agree but think you left Spurrier off your list. I look for the Gators to start improving this year with an outside shot at winning the East. Call me the ultimate Orange and Blue glass guy.
