Link Check out Alabama at #4. And they're in the BCS Championship game. Roll Tide. Nice to see Arizona at #6. It shows the conference is still strong despite USC's "down" year.
Interesting: After Alabama, Texas has the highest ranked schedule of the remainging undefeated teams. TCU/Cincy/Boise State all had schedules outside the top 50. Irish came in at #45.
I believe playing in your conference has something to do with that... You're the second best team in Texas Doc, but this system is putting you in a spot to play for the title.. take it and run
Lol...2nd best team in Texas. We played TCU only a few years ago, it was a 10-3 season for the Longhorns, 5-3 in the B12, losses to KState, Texas A&M and OU. TCU had a pretty good club that year as well this is the pregame write up on ESPN. Result? We kicked their butts 34-13.
You could have played Alabama 2 years ago and they were 6-6... what does that have to do with this year?
BTW- You failed to mention that 8-5 TCU team you beat... They also lost to Air Force, Wyoming, Utah, and BYU.. So a 10-3 Texas team beat a 8-5 TCU team? Well done sir
At the time we played they were ranked #19 and people were talking about how the beat OU previously. TCU was being given a lot of cred about how good they were and how this would be a great game, they had an NFL DE on defense. After being handled so easily by Texas they fell apart and stumbled through the season. This TCU team is better no doubt, and so is this Texas team. I would not fear TCU in least in a game. I would expect to win. Sure they might give us a good game, but more likely we'd stone'm.
I think we have different perspectives on your team It's no big deal. This bowl season could/should be fun. I wonder if they will stick TCU and Boise playing each other again? That way they are assured of at least one losing so they can be written off, while the winner gets written off for 'not playing BCS competition'. I did notice that in the top 50, I think only 1 or 2 nonBCS schools made that list. Odd, no?
Most likely Bowl Senario. BCS Game Bama/Texas Rose Oregon/Ohio State Fiesta Iowa/Boise State Fiesta will choose Iowa because they think Iowa fans will show up in droves. Sugar: Fla/Cincy Orange: GaTech/TCU It's the first time in BCS bowl history that the BCS bowl slots will all be filled by the highest rated teams available. It's also a pretty unappealing lineup to tell you the truth.
Honestly, I think I'd rather see UF/Boise....or even Boise/Cinci.. That would be speed football on incredible levels. I think this is a must win Rose Bowl for Ohio State and the Big10.
Ohio State will handle Oregon easily in the Rose Bowl. Pryor will have a field day with his speed and power vs the Ducks.
BTW-the thing that makes these games so terrible is the conference tie in... the very thing this system use to bitch about and claimed it would eliminate.. we now have more than ever. Need I remind you that Pryor was handled by the 6th place team in the Pac10 at the Shoe?
I notice you're not commenting about the incredible number of SEC teams on that list, Corey. I noticed 7 of the top 25. Not too bad for a conference that takes hits constantly for its inferior non-conference competition. I think Texas and TCU would be a good game. I wasn't impressed with Texas last night. I think Nebraska's defense had a lot to do with that though. I have not seen TCU play this entire season I don't thinik but from what I hear their D is no joke. It would probably be an interesting game. However, to suggest blindly that TCU would definitely win is a reach and just shows your disdain for the BCS, Corey. I do agree about seeing a Boise/Cincy or Florida/Boise matchup. That would be fun. The WR from Cincy put on a heck of a show yesterday. He's got big league speed. I'm not as certain as you are, Terry, about Ohio St. definitely taking care of Oregon. I don't understand what makes you so sure. In fact, history would seem to indicate just the opposite happening. Anytime Ohio St. has faced a speed type team they've gotten crunched in bowl games. I know you saw the lack of defense last Thursday and I saw that too. However, I also saw a ton of speed from OU. I also remember Ohio State losing to one of the worst USC teams in years at home, if I remember correctly. Oregon beat that same team 47-20. We'll see and you may be right but I like Oregon's chances.
Also, don't forget that Oregon edged Purdue by 2 early in the season, something like 38-36, and Purdue beat OSU later. That combination of results should provide some additional fodder for conversation/debate.
Aguila, Actually I did, but indirectly. The super conference format assures you of a certain level of 'computer and poll quality' by design. You're always going to have this huge number of teams that are assured of finishing with no worse than a 500 record in your conference. I have resigned myself to the fact that this terrible system will continue to favor the super conference teams because it was founded for and by the founder of super conferences... Ive realized the SEC fans are good people who love their teams and they are doing what anyone in their right mind would do.... take the easy money while America is handing it to them. An interesting by product of this is that the Big10 keeps getting handed unwarranted attention and massive chunks of money... Sure people growl a bit, but the system rolls on and the money rolls in. Basically though... Terry and I are just giving each other sh*t because as ND fans, we share a lot in common.. as people, we get a long great.. however, as to where we went to school.. we come from different perspectives.. He's a big12 texas homer, and I'm a pac10 black helicopter pilot... It keeps us going thru the off-season Sid.. I was pacing myself
