Tony Barnhart has written a complimentary article about the job Spurrier has done at SouCar this season.....they are headed for maybe 10 wins before the bowl game.....and have a perfect record in the SEC East.

Spur Dog shows no signs of letting up and brings some nice stability to the Gamecock program.

Makes me wonder what would have happened if Foley the AD had said to Steve that his resume was good enough.....no interviews needed.

2 NCs in Meyer's tenure probably negates any and all debate about this but you have to wonder which direction UF is headed in now and whether or not Spurrier would be nice to have at the helm right now and also whether or not Spurrier could have won another title or two himself if he were at UF the past 6 years instead of SC.

Yeah SOS has done a good job at So.Car. It helps that his program hit a peak when the Gators, Tenn and UGa were clearly not the same teams as they were in the last 10 years.

BTW are you hearing anything about Charlie leaving UF after this year? I keep seeing comments on ND boards about Charlie not staying in Gainesville.

This much is very true.......his path has been made easier the last couple years by other's mediocrity.

Haven't heard anything mentioned lately about Weis leaving G-ville.

    Dave,

Glad to see you're now spelling Weis' name correctly (one "s"). I guess it took him being a Gator to get it done.

Just curious, why do people on the Notre Dame board think Weis is leaving Florida?

I haven't heard that. I have heard that Dayne Crist is leaving ND for UF and he was a Weis recruit.

I don't think CFB will be beating Weis door down .

Well here's a summary of the Gators problems this year...note most of them are on Charlies side of the ball.

Big article in today's Florida Times-Union on why UF is struggling this year. The highlights:

    1) UF will have it's first losing season in the SEC since 1986.

    2) UF must beat Furman tomorrow to avoid an overall losing season and become bowl eligible sicne they won't be favored in their finale against a surging FSU team.

    3) UF has been playing with 73 players this year, 12 under the the NCAA limit. Their depth and experience has been gutted by mass transfers since Muschamp took over. UF is currently playing 15 true freshmen and 50 frosh and sophs have played this year.

    4) With all the skill player talent in Florida, UF has struck out on WRs. So far their WRs have caught a mere 56 passes for 839 yards and two TDs. The WRs have as many fumbles than TDs.

    5) Brantley's injury killed them. They were 4-0 with 161 points before Brnatley's high ankle sprain. Since being forced to use true frosh Brissett and Driscoll and then a very limited return by a still hurting Brantley, They have scored only 85 points in six games.

    6) And, finally, here's one ND fans can identify with: penalties and turnovers. The Gators are dead last in the country (120th) in penalties per game at 8.3 per game. The Gators have fumbled 24 times and lost 11. They have 19 TO's total and their TO differential is a deadly minus 10.

    Sums it up pretty well.

Plus....Janoris Jenkins....an All-SEC lockdown corner... was kicked off the team in Jan. for his second pot offense and he sure was missed when Georgia threw those two long 4th down TD passes in their narrow win over Florida.

It just hasn't been our year but still UF has a chance for a winning season if they beat either FSU or the bowl opponent.

1979 was the last losing season for UF and I remember looking this up one time going back to the 1950s and UF has had the fewest losing seasons in that time of just about anyone in the NCAA.

UF has been a play or two away from winning in losses to Auburn, Ga. and SC so hopefully the Gators can show some progress in the last few games and give us fans a little promise for next season.

I do know that recruiting is going very well and eventually that will give the on field results a boost.

Well Charlie has a number of undesirable distinctions as a coach...First ND coach to Lose to Navy in 44 years, Worst season as a ND coach in 45+ years, First ND coach to lose to Navy in back to back years in 44+ years, first ND coach to go 0 for November 2x in forever. Now he can add first UF coach (OCoord) to have a losing season for UF in 40+ years.

I think in the end he has to have so much experience to run his offense that by the time he has that at UF he'll have worn out his welcome.

Just one more season of moribund offense like UF displayed this year and that could happen.

Thing is.....UF looked like that last year under Meyer too so you wonder if it's the current players also at fault for not being the playmakers needed.

Probably time to plug in Chollie Jr's headset and give him a shot at calling plays.... 8)

Weis was also on duty when the Irish gave up 58 sacks in one season.... the all time record for doormats. Say what you want about Jimmy Clausen but that boy could take a beating.

UF had some highly touted receivers not pan out so that is an area sorely lacking......and while Rainey and Demps are talents in their own special speedy way UF has been sorely lacking an inside...power type back which is needed in the SEC. When Tebow was at UF he WAS the inside guy who could always get the tough yards.

Uf also had some attrition under Muschamp and the loss of Jenkins as I mentioned was huge.

Top that off with a Qb who for the last two years just doesn't make enough positive plays and you have the recipe for mediocrity.
