The Spurrier to Alabama story is gaining some legs I'm having trouble believing this. Spurrier To Alabama Story Getting Legs?
I've always liked him because he is a personality. Most of today's coaches are too vanilla. I mean, with Woody, Bo, The Bear, Switzer etc. you had a game within the game. He'd be a nice pickup for the Tide. Do they have plam trees in Birmingham?
Bama fans now halluciinating that Pete Caroll is being contacted about the job!! Pete Caroll to 'Bama thread
Terry.... <t>I guesss anything is possible but I wonder if these people are even serious when they put things like that out there? With SC getting ready to play for yet another title and most all the team back next year why would PC even consider this? Laughable.<br/> Having said all that there is no reason Bama should not get an outstanding guy to head the program.</t>
I didn't hear the Coach Caroll rumor, it was all drowned out by the Coach Spurrier rumors! Rodriguez rumors heating up now.
Bill, I have no idea. This is beginning to look eerily like the last search. I personally would like to give Jeff Bower a shot or keep Joe Kines as HC, but neither one of those options are even being discussed. :?:
Well Spurrier's new contract would seem to take him out of the picture. kp, it seems strange to me the way this has unfolded. After being told he is being kept, Shula is fired. I thought for almost certain that meant they had a candidate all but wrapped up. And I guess that could still be true but not come out until later. Rich Rodriguez would certainly be a good one if you could get him. Good luck.
Now Nick Saban is interviewing for the job???? What's up with that? Didn't he just leave LSU because college wasn't a challenge anymore?
Well if these numbers are right, that is a huge contract offer that Alabama made to Saban (or his agent as Saban contends). So much for the theory that they don't have any money to spend. I wonder what they offered Rich Rodriquez.
Given the opinion so very, very many Alabama fans had/have of Urban Meyer's spread option offense (especially after the 2005 UF@Alabama game) .... I kinda hope R Rodriquez gets the bama job.
If Rodriguez is the man, I hope he tailors his offense and defense to the talent we have here, and not try to force an offense on personnel not suited to it. I suspect that the spread offense will work for a while for certain teams and then the defenses will figure it out and it will be changed. I honestly don't know much about Rodriguez.
This is an interesting tidbit. Alabama has to clear it's coaching hire with the NCAA, because of their probation. So I guess Gary Barnett and Slick Rick will not be applying.
