Down toward the bottom of the article, some comments from Meyer about the BCS and the Rose Bowl game with LSU. Thought some of you might like to read this. Urban On BCS and Rose Bowl Remember his part is at the bottom of the article. But the top half is really intersting stull also. If your are a Gator!
... <t>he's doing a lot of talking for a guy with a game on saturday.<br/> <br/> i do think its funny that the SEC does so much crying for something that is essentially the baby of former SEC czar Roy Kramer</t>
Tell me this Corey, why is it whining when someone gives an honest opinion. And remember much of this was from Meyer's impression of the BCS when he was at Utah. Secondly, I didn't see a lot of crying, just stating of facts as he sees them. Also because something may have seemed like a good idea at the time, or even was a good idea at the time, but as time goes by someone else sees what might be a better idea why does it have to be viewed negatively? I think a lot of people see the BCS and the conference playoffs as steps toward a real playoff. I don't know about you but I would like to see that. And it isn't crying.
Bill, A UF coach being described as whining is the snare drum next to the bass drum of Florida's schedule which a few Skyboxers love to beat to death. It's all hollow music but still....they beat that drum.
Part of Meyer's argument to play for the NC was that OSU and Michigan hadn't played defenses as tough as he has faced. Again, the premise that the SEC is the Cadillac of football conferences is the basis for his whine. His argument is subjective at best. Florida squeaked by in a number of games against teams that just aren't that good. At least that is how it looked to the rest of the country, the great unwashed. Take care of your business tomorrow, Urban. Be thankful you're not playing OSU, Michigan or USC.
George, did you read this link or are you commenting on the article that was posted on another link. It's not the same. Just curious, because he does not discuss what you referred to in this article, only that we need a playoff and that he was invited to speak to Congress but couldn't make it at the time. He was invited because of his experience at Utah not Florida. Inquiring minds just want to know?
Urban is in a no win situation with the LSU-Rose Bowl connection. It makes sense in a lot of ways for the Rose Bowl to take LSU. The loser of the SEC Championship game will most likely be ranked below LSU. I get the feeling that the Rose Bowl thinks that the Gators are going to win the SECC game.
what I am saying is <t>this guy has done a lot of talking considering that he still has a game left to play.<br/> <br/> second, and this has been pointed out by the Gameday crew (as we know anything ESPNonic is a fav source of MCG), Meyer's tone has changed since coming to Florida.<br/> <br/> The premise is still the same, his team deserves to go ahead of others. For that, honestly, I can't blame him. He's doing what's best for he and his kids. My beef is that there has been a LOT of whining out of the SEC over the past few years (not just limited to UF, so please dont take it that way) for something that is, quite literally, the product of Roy Kramer. What we see today is the 'vision' of the legendary SEC Czar.<br/> <br/> Now we have them calling upon the new BCS head, and SEC Commish, to re-draw the system we are playing on. Where were the cat calls in the years when non-SEC teams were getting hosed by this system? There's been a lot of cat calls about the Pac10 commish but he has consistantly said this system sucks ass.</t>
gipper, I think your post is dead on. I expect the Gators to win but then I always have my Orange and Blue glasses on. I did read a post on Gator Country that the Orange Bowl hates their probable matchup and are trying to work a deal with the Rose Bowl to defer and let the Orange Bowl take Florida. I don't know the validity of that rumor. But regardless the chips fall where they may. We win, we go to the Sugar and likely play Notre Dame, we lose we either go to the Orange Bowl or the Citrus Bowl in Orlando on New Years Day and play Wisconsin. Corey, I frankly don't see this article as Meyer doing a lot of talking, he answered a question in relation to a playoff and said what I think most of us here would like to see, a playoff with 4-8 teams. My view on the whole situation is this, we used to just have bowl games and the final polls were even taken before the bowl games, then the polls moved after the bowl games were played but many times the number one team ducked the number 2 team, then the top ranked team started playing the best team available unless they had a bowl tie in, then the BCS came along without the Big 10 and the Pac 10, then they joined and we have a BCS with all the major conferences. To me those were all steps in the right direction and I hope the direction keeps leading to a playoff with at least 4 teams and maybe 8 or 16 teams.
I think this team has taken on the character of it's head coach and it is a win first ask questions later kind of mentality. Jim Tressel has that mentality and he proved it in 2002 with a team at OSU that everyone doubted until they persevered over favored Miami. I think UF brings it tomorrow and how can you not go with senior QB Chris Leak in this one. Does anyone doubt his hunger for a ring?
