Corey you still out there? :)

I noticed that the ND Women have scheduled a spring game with the Mexican Womens National Team, while the ND Men have scheduled a game the same weekend with the Mexican Under 17 National Team.

Now ND Womens Soccer is one of the elite teams year in and year out in College soccer, the men are a good program but not an elite level program like the women. But is there that much difference that an elite level womens program can take on a National Team, while a good mens college soccer program takes on a bunch of 14-16y/o kids, no doubt very good players. But that seems sort of odd.

You can't do it with American football, but with many other team sports, you want to build a program by playing a diverse schedule. The idea of playing a younger national team, is that you will be playing against players with a very high level of skills. Your players will pick up some of those skills during the game and learn others from films of the game. If you want your players to get in better condition, you would play a good, experienced team and so on. Your players learn by doing and seeing examples demonstrated, rather than just listening to the coach, which is the slowest way to learn anything.

    That's the theory anyway...

The American woman's soccer program is a world elite program having won Olympic and World Cup titles. Men's soccer in this country is still second tier at best. The matchups are probably good ones.
