So I've seen a lot of comments here that Tebow should not have won the Heisman. So who should have won and why? I remember many years ago when I first went into management I was sent to a seminar where I heard a speaker I will never forget, his name was Chapie James, the first black Four Star General in the US Air Force. Chappie James Anyway, what he said that stuck with me the rest of my life, he said his grandmother told him that "If you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem"<i></i> That is as accurate a quote as I remember and it stuck with me. So what I am saying is this, don't tell me who should not have won the Heisman, tell me who should have and why. Anyone can be put forth including Tebow. This is just meant to be fun.
So I will say my guy, Tim Tebow, did deserve the trophy, why? 29 passing TDs and 22 rushing TD's, first time ever a player was over 20 in both. Without Tebow the Gators may have had a losing season He is a great football player He's not only a great football player but a natural leader
Hey if we were using the bowl games as proof that one of the other contenders was screwed....then it would still be Tim Tebow. Chase Daniel had an off day, McFadden was ordinary, Colt Brennan certainly didn't do anything to prove he was more worthy. So Tebow deserved it before the game and still deserves it.
Man the guys on WFAN in New York were taking Tebow to the woodshed earlier.... Mike Francesa says he'll never throw a pass in the NFL.
I mentioned the same thing in a post yesterday. Tebow might make it as a running back..but he wont play qback on sundays.
Hey George and Joel, I disagree on that assessment of Tebow, but that's another story, so who do you think should have won the Heisman?
I'm at odds with my east coast friends on this one. I think the kid can pass. Terry makes a good point about the bowl performances of the other candidates. Tebow did not have a bad game yesterday. I don't understand why the talking heads are criticizing him other than to fill air space, which really is all they are capable of doing. By the way, what does a college player's pro prospects have to do with the Heisman Trophy? Answer.....NOTHING. I'm with Bill on this one. As an objective observer, I've concluded for myself that the right man won the award. If you don't think he deserved it, tell me who did.
and for the record <t>I think injury cut short the season for the real Heisman winner. Dennis Dixon.</t>
Corey, the last time I heard the real winner was Tebow. I guess you are saying Dixon could have or should have won. That leaves the other part of the question, why?
so <t>back to the Tech kid.<br/> <br/> Big wins over Texas A&M, Virginia and Oklahoma. Led his team to a 9-4 record throwing to a freshman WR as his main target.<br/> <br/> He went 44/69 for 407 yards and 63.8% with 3 TDs and ) ints in his bowl game in which he led his team to a win.<br/> <br/> Against Oklahoma he was 47/72 for 420 yards with 2tds and 2 ints. He led his team to an upset win over a top flight team that was playing for a spot in the NC game.</t>
OH Please, Graham Harrell...you've got to be kidding me. Even Tech fans wouldn't back you on that one.
Bill, I've said all along that Tebow deserved the Heisman because of what he means to his team. Without him UF would be lucky to 6-6. He IS the team.
Bill, I would have voted for DMac.....simply put, imho, he is the games best player. That in no way diminishes what young Tebow did this year. He had an extraordinary year.
you are correct <t>Tebow was the real winner.. my omission was IMHO. sorry.<br/> <br/> As for Dixon, he was leading perhaps the nation's most prolific offense. At the time he went down with a season ending knee injury, Oregon was poised for an NC run.<br/> <br/> We now have a common opponent compare/contrast with Tebow.<br/> <br/> Tebow got Michigan in a virtual home game in the bowls. Tebow was 17-33 for 154 yards and 3 passing tds. He also rushed 16 times for 54 yards and 1 td.<br/> <br/> Dixon played Michigan at the Big House. He was 16-25 for 292 yards and 3 Tds, he also rushed 16 times for 76 yards and 1 rushing TD in a victory that was over by halftime. Dixon played in the 2nd half but it was spent turning around handing off after his 3rd quarter TD pass... before giving way to the backups</t>
More on Dixon <t>with him, Oregon was 8-1. The one game they lost was lost when an Oregon player fumbled as he was crossing the goal line.<br/> <br/> Without him, the Ducks finished 0-3 before drawing Auburn and West Virginia killer South Florida in the bowl.</t>
It would have been interesting if Dixon had stayed healthy, but he didn't and also the UM football team that Fla played was hardly the UM team that Dixon played. But if he had not been injured then he might have won it, if he'd finished the season strong...but he didn't finish the season. It's a shame, but it's life.
true Terry <t>That is why I stated in my original post, that injury cut short his season... it sucks, but that's life.<br/> <br/> Now I know its nice for everyone to paint Michigan as these mystical warriors who were playing to defend the honor of Lloyd... but the reality is.. Florida had a sh*tty defense all year long..The Gators just weren't that good at all... on defense at least.<br/> <br/> That team that played oregon got upset by Appy State... they came out full of p and v, looking to prove the previous week was a fluke.. oregon smoked them from the starting gun.</t>
Dixon very well may have won the Heisman and Oregon very well may have been in the national championship game if Dixon had not been injured. I'm reminded of just a few years ago when Adrian Peterson lost the season and very possibly the Heisman when he hotdogged it into the end zone with a front flip and broke his collarbone. Stuff happens. Woulda, coulda, shoulda. I also recall when Ron Powlus was injured his junior year, which definitely cost him his first Heisman and put him too far behind the other candidates in his quest for his second Heisman. Right, Gip?
