And LSU, Alabama and Oregon win out. Who should play LSU for the Championship? While I don't like rematches under the current setup and think you should win the conference championship to be eligible it would seem that we would have a rematch. Who should it be, and if not a rematch then who else? I know we should have a playoff, but we don't so I am asking who this year?
Well IMHO since both Oregon and Alabama have already lost to LSU why not give OU a shot in those circumstances and that is hard for me to say!! Mainly I hope OSU finishes strong and undefeated and plays LSU. It will be interesting to see if Houston can finish the season undefeated, GameDay is going to be in Houston this weekend for the SMU game and then they finish on the road against a dangerous Tulsa team before having to play somebody in the CUSA championship game...bet you didn't know they had one did you!! If they do finish the season undefeated they will most likely get an autobid as they will probably sneak into the top 10 BCS rankings which will mean they get a BCS bid. But no way will they move up to anywhere close to the #2 slot.
If the only choices are Oregon and Alabama, Oregon has a chance to win their conference. By losing to LSU (if LSU remains undefeated), Bama has no chance of winning the West so they can't win their conference. Oregon would have to get the nod.
Oklahoma could finish with one loss and win their conference. My problem with them is who they lost to.
Yeah I get it that they lost to Texas Tech, while the other 2 lost to LSU, but I just don't really care for a rematch..I'd rather let OU have their shot. But as I said I prefer OSU to stay undefeated and we have them in the title game. Actually I hope LSU loses at least 1 time before the end of the season and that we have Oregon vs OSU in the title game.
If not I think it will be Oregon if they keep performing the way they have been lately. The Ducks have a chance to shine vs. USC this Saturday and then if they win the PAC 12 title game while Bama sits idle at home that will be the finishing kick the Ducks need to get to #2. It hurts a team quite a bit to sit and not play for it's conference championship in early December while another comparable team....breathing down it's BCS neck.....plays for and wins a championship.
I don't know. Oregon (if they win the PAC??) or the winner of the Big 8???. I guess. I really don't know. :?
I think there comes a point that even in principal you don't believe in a rematch from the same conference that it becomes the most logical and best game. That could happen with Alabama this year.
I think nothing about this system is fair or right.. if OSU loses, Bama or Oregon may be your teams. I see what you guys are saying about Oklahoma but they are out based on the 'Boise bylaw'... you lost to someone that bad, you're at the bottom of the pile.
"That could happen with Alabama this year" Bama only plays Auburn for a BCS boost whereas Oregon plays USC and the can win a championship while Bama does nothing......plus Bama lost at home. I think the tilt is toward the Ducks.
If I was an Oregon or Alabama fan I would be rooting for Okie State to lose and my team get back in it. That is the way the Gators won all three of our national championships. As an SEC fan I would love it for both teams to be from the SEC. However my basic positon is against rematches from the same conference so I hope both LSU and Okie State stay the course. If Okie State loses then all bets are off.'
Corey what level of outrage will you feel if the Houston Cougars go undefeated and don't get into the BCS Championship game?
Nothing personal against SEC fans here but I hope we have an Oregon/Oklahoma State BCSCG...no more SEC!!
Terry, Re: Houston.. Almost none.. People come to expect the shaft from this system. It's a joke and most people following the major BCS powers don't realize what a joke the system is seen as.. Worst, the insulated power structure of the BCS itself is not in touch with reality vs perception vs the BCS world. It's a shame. Houston should get their day..but whatever.
Houston over Bama......over Oregon? Really? I have watched this BCS ending closely since it's inception and I usually have it pretty well figured out what's going to be the result when certain teams win/lose. I think other than LSU and Okie State winning out the only one loss teams with a chance are Oregon and Bama......in that order.....unless Oklahoma beats Ok St and wins the Big 12 so then they also would be in the mix.
Actually Houston could be in a BCS bowl, there is a provision that forces the BCS to take 1 non automatic qualifier team if they finish in the top 12 of the BCS poll. If there are 2 of them they are still only obligated to take 1, Houston is right now in the top 12. If they win out I couldn't see them falling below the top 12. What if Houston and Boise State both finish in the top 12? Will Corey have any outrage if Boise State with 1 loss gets the BCS bid over the mighty Cougars? Just poking you Corey you don't have to answer! One thing the BCS bowls will likely take into account, Boise State travels to bowls pretty well, esp the Fiesta Bowl. The Cougars on the other hand don't really have a big and/or loyal fan base that they can count on the sell seats to any BCS Bowl. Right now I'd compare the Cougars to that Hawaii team that had a Record setting QB and went to the Sugar Bowl and didn't do well, Cougars have Case Keenum a record setting QB but I can't see them doing well in a BCS Bowl if they get the nod.
I would not be all that excited about a Oregon/LSU rematch. I thought LSU was clearly the better team whereas Alabama and LSU seemed very evenly matched. For the sake of a match-ups of unbeatens, I hope OSU runs the table but I have a hard time seeing them being competitive against LSU. IMHO LSU and Alabame look like the best two football teams this year.
There are so many comparison that can be made that it really is ridiculous to try to pick out the "top 2" teams in the nation with the system we have. I will throw this out there as yet another way to look at it: Oregon lost to LSU in the first game of the season, traveling 2000 miles to play @ LSU. Alabama lost to LSU last week, at HOME. After 11 weeks, is it likely the Oregon team is a different team than it was the first week of the season? Is it likely the Alabama team has improved in the last week? Oregon has a chance to win the Conference Championship. Alabama can't win their own division, much less their conference. If there has to be a rematch, the chances that we see a different result are greater with Oregon. I would prefer no rematches, but I think OK St. would get blown out of the stadium.
