I kind of assumed that there must be some anti-federal disaster relief stance by the GOP and that Sandy would bring out some discussion: http://money.msn.com/politics/post.aspx?post=7ccf234a-f324-4cb9-baae-dc362f18decb&ocid=ansmony11 So now with staunch Republican governor Christie cozying up to Obama because his own state is devasted it makes you wonder just where would the GOP draw the line of funding for FEMA and how they would decide which areas of the country get FEMA assistance and what type of disaster? I think all of this should have specific rules that must be followed if they do not exist already with regard to application of funds. There is no room for discretion or political favoritism. If a GOP state is in trouble and needs help it gets it regardless and vice versa no matter who is president or who controls congress. If the funds are depleted because of the multitude of disasters in recent years the country needs to step it up with regard to more funding. And if an insane GOP pyscho governor like the one we have here in Florida were to snub his nose at federal relief funds just to prove a self-serving, twisted political point of view then you shove it down his throat anyway in the best interests of the disaster's victims. Fortunately I have heard no such banal and ill-spoken rhetoric from Gov. Christie in this crisis and and for that I do applaud him.
According to Christi NJ is 50th in federal funds received compared to taxes paid. He has no reservations about asking for some of that tax money back. The big issue is billions are spent helping those that live on the coast rebuild after thier homes get destroyed every so often. They're subsidized by those who live in the middle of the country. Probably no state has gotten more weather related federal aid than Florida. It figures you'd post about FEMA.
That article popped up on my home page which strangely enough isn't FOX NEWS ONLINE  With Sandy no political figure or candidate can make any comments about the issue and be PC but others can bring it up.....
you know with George and Jiff in the middle of all this I dont think this is appropriate now . George is Ok but said things are really bad. Tell you what instead of worring about FEMA do like everyone else give a donation to the red cross. We have family in the area to. As for Christie..... he lost alot he truley cares for the people he governs. does that surprise you. because he is a republican.... He showed respect for the president as a courtesy for the office not the man. I believe that Chrsitie will rebuild the state with or without FEMA help. He hasnt changed his support for Romney/Ryan just he has a state to rebuild first.
I know it's very bad up there. I traversed the Jersey shore 3 weeks ago stopping in places like Point Pleasant, Mantoloking, Toms River, Atlantic City and Cape May. I did say I applaud Christi for not politicizing the situation but I do firmly believe the same could not be said about the a-hole we have here in Florida no matter the gravity of the crisis. http://www.cnn.com/ As I said it's time for haste.....not political ******** by either side and I'm glad to see that all players seem to get it. But I'll bet you that Rick Scott is squirming in his chair like Little Johnny who is dying to ask some embarassing question..... 8)
I have friends that work for Fema (they already got their calls to go) trust me it is mismanaged and the waste of money is really something else. I get all details of their trips last was to PA. But why a political thing now your state isnt even involved. Cant you just let it be ...... you also suggested that Christi was kissing ass to the President something he would never do but you can tell he was brought up properly to respect an office not necessarily the person.
What I have suggested is that Gov. Christi has been conducting himself with a great deal of humanity, dignity and a respect for the office of the presidency without politicizing and agenda pushing and it's a refreshing thing to witness in today's political abyss. My wife had George Stephanopolous on Katie Couric just last night and it was a big topic of discussion with nothing but positiove said for Christi's handling of the crisis.
Do a little self examination of the posts Stu, of the right side of this board....which is 99% of it. Those are "rants" if you will to my viewpoint and there is a ton of piling on and back slappin goin on amongst the rest of that 99%. Jeezus....I posted what is a very topical article given that the vote for our president is next week and I certainly didn't "rant" about it and I have been very positive about Christi who is one of the most highly visible GOP figures in recent months. I may have digressed and "ranted" about our own guv here in Florida because well......he deserves it. Even the GOP convention in his home state didn't want the jerk on the podium.
You topically posted how you rightly admired President Obama and Gov. Christy and their actions...I agree. Then you fell back on your usual snarky comments. We get that you don't like Scott...save it for a time when people aren't hurting and dying...particularly when he has nothing to do with this. I'm done here.
Scott represents the anti-Christi....if you will. He is an example of what could have gone down if Christi didn't have the fortitude and wisdom that he has exhibited. I actually have gained respect for the man from all of this as I believe a lot of moderate Americans probably have. He has most likely placed himself squarely in the race for the next GOP nomination for president should Romney lose this election because middle of the road Americans are absolutely dying for a candidate that can work with the other side for the common good of America.
First of all I know both sides fight like hell to disagree with newly elected presidents from the other party.....fight everything he proposes tooth and nail but I think the GOP is especially energetic toward that end. "Obama counters by predicting that Republican lawmakers who now are focused on opposing his re-election will become more cooperative once he wins a second term." The above I also believe would be true.
anti-federal disaster relief I would think this would be one of the key issues a government is good for, no matter the party associated with. There comes a time where the good of the people out weighs politics... Even though we all know this is not true all the time.. I wish all of those affected by Sandy the best of luck, there is nothing like going back 75 years in time with a lack of power, water etc.... As far as depending on FEMA for help, let's all be adults, we are and should be dependent on ourselves in all crisis. I lost my roof in Hurricane Charley and went without power for 13 days. My wife and I then spent $24,000 to replace the roof with a little help from our home insurance, very little. Then after 28 years with Allstate insurance we were dropped because Allstate said they were dropping some customers at random. Our friends, neighbors and loved ones ended up being the main force of recovery behind every storm, not the Federal government. I expect the folks in the northeast will discover this as well.
"ELECTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES" Are you talking about the Republicans in the House that weren't allowed to read the Health Care bill before they had to vote on it? How does the Golden Rule go again?
Good Grief! Non-union Alabama crews turned away from New Jersey; http://www.waff.com/story/19981857/some-nonunion-ala-crews-turned-away-from-sandy-recovery
I sent that link to my sister in Summit NJ. She's been without power since the storm. I'm sure she'll be thrilled by the news.
