I'm watching the political fallout live and have been for hours. Who knew the head of the Bank of England wasn't English?

You have to wonder if this will change things in Scotland which just last year tried to leave the UK and the referendum went in favor of staying in the UK. This might change things. The electoral map of who vote for what is very telling. Scotland, Northern Ireland and London all voted to stay in the EU, the rest of England and Wales voted to leave.

I think Scottish independence is now a matter of when and not if. David Cameron stepped in it and he's dragging it all over the carpet. If Scotland goes independent, SF can make a sincere case that the British no longer represent the interests of Northern Ireland in matters related to the EU... and then call for a unification vote. I know SF has already done this, but I don't think they're serious, just yet.

    Ralph,
    Gotta be Canadian.

What we're seeing is nationalism and pocketbook voting. First Scotland and N. Ireland have done very well financially since GB joined the EU. They voted with their pocketbook. However the average blue collar worker in England has seen his country overrun with unchecked immigration from other parts of the EU. London has so many that the mayor is a Muslim. Note that Muslim London voted to stay with the open door. However the rest of England sees their heritage being destroyed. They're not worried about the economic impact they want to stem the tide of the invasion. It's their way of voting for the building of a wall. Just like in the US the political elite care about what's best for the monied class. Enough commoners were able to make their voices heard.

Gee reading those tweets, I can't see why white Britons don't want to let in more of those bigoted assholes. These are the same type of people that feel happy in Obama's America.

The white hate from fellow whites is not as shocking as it used to be but still bothersome...I have always wondered what the results will be when whites are the minority and if we can expect the same social groups speaking on our behalf, protesting, giving tax breaks and college exemptions...

Nahh, not going to happen and people wonder why every member of my family has a concealed weapons permit and we plan on taking care of our own, never thinking or relying on outside assistance...

Interesting enough, Northern Ireland is actually not doing that well at all. Additionally, we're now going to see a wall built and it will be between Ireland and Northern Ireland. Things might get ugly. Then again, SF is calling for a united Ireland vote. Ireland's economy is booming under the EU. The EU presented an economic bridge over England and their bigoted, anti-Irish, anti-Catholic people.

I saw an article recently that stated the Catholics will become a rather large majority in Northern Ireland by the year 2020. When that happens, the vote will come about.

As for Scotland, I hope they go independent. The English still want all the Scottish resources and will try to lay claim to them, but I doubt the Scots will be willing to part with oil wells.

We know what we're getting in the short term with this deal. What remains to be seen is the long term economic and cultural impact of this move. Not just for England, but the entire region.

If Scotland goes solo and Ireland unifies, I'm not sure what the English think they'll be left with other than Wales and control of their own tax policy.

Coincidentally I'm off to London in less than 4 weeks and will be spending a couple of days in Scotland. Hope to get a chance to talk to some of the locals.

    hahaha!!

I have friends in Scotland. It's interesting to watch all this unfold through their postings and reflections. It's funny that nationalism wasn't that important when we were talking about Scottish nationalism. In fact, of all the threats (implied or otherwise) that were made against the Scots in the run up to their independence referendum, EU membership now certainly sits as the most ironic. As always, England did what was in England's best interest.

Honestly, that's fine. However, when other nations begin to act in their best interest, it's smart to remember that England is no martyr.
