The Bama lad is getting it done. I dont know if many have watched his games this year. I've seen almost all of them. Its impressive. They play that low-risk NFL style West Coast offense. They aren't going to come out and light you up for 50 like a Florida will. What they do is sit back and let you do what you do, then they strike when you are weak...Very, very NFL style approach and the kids seem to be getting it.. More teams lose games to them than have it taken from them... That may be his design while he lacks the ponies. BTW, their true freshman QB is really looking good at times. They are bowl eligible. Im glad to see this..The guy does it right. He doesn't bad mouth. He's straight forward. While the shady recruiting stories seem to keep pouring out of every SEC camp, they have gone away at Miss State. Good for him
Our qb threw 2 very bad passes and MSU ran the ball down our throats in their win over us. Croom does seem to have MSU on the mend.
KP <t>I mention this because, of all the heralded African-American head coaches, Sly seems to get the least amount of credit.

Ty is a program killer. Kaptain Karl at UCLA isn't far behind Ty.

Sly is teaching these kids how to play football. He is changing the mindset at Miss State. Its slow, but its a legit learning process that I've enjoyed watching unfold this season.

I would write off their win over Bama as a few bad passes except for the fact they did the same exact thing to Auburn. Sit back and wait for the QB to make a bad decision. Cut the game in half with the running game.. Teach their young QB how to manage the game and clock effectively while staying within the confines of the offense.

Maybe its just me. I love to watch a good teacher at work. Sly isn't getting the credit he is due.</t>
 Dorrell is probably through at UCLA. He may lose his job even if he beats USC again. He returned an incredible 18 starting seniors, with depth everywhere, as well as possibly the best set of Dbacks in the nation and he's losing to everyone. The Bruins are Notre Dame's only win; they were blown out by last-place Wazzoo and winless Utah, which was blown out by Nevada Las Vegas the following week 27-0. He's ruining a program that was talking national title before the season began... Thanks for the update on Croom. We don't get MSU games out here and I've been wondering how he did it...
JOCO <t>They are currently sitting in 4th in the SEC West behind LSU, Alabama and Auburn. The thing is, they've played one fewer conference game.

They hold the tie-breaker with Alabama and Auburn since they beat both already.. Auburn at Auburn earlier this year and Bama this past week in Starkvegas.

They close the season @ Arkansas and then with the Egg Bowl against Ole Miss. The face the very real possibility of finishing the regular season 8-4 and 2nd place in the SEC West.

Alabama and Auburn have only each other in conference play so one will drop, while both have lost to the Dawgs as I stated previously.

In a division that has Nick Saban, Les Miles, Tummy Tuberville, Houston Nutt and Ed "I'll kick your arse" Orgeron...Sly Croom has remained a quiet man who is trying to do things right.

Good for him. I hope he wins out.</t>
I guess the issue at a place like MSU isn't that they can't be built to be a decent team, but like Texas Tech or similar places they can't really get beyond that level. They just can't recruit the talent level, and Croom can coach the hell out of those kids and have them win 7 or 8 games but it'll be hard to flip the table and become a top SEC West program consistently. But I'm glad to see him experience some success and who knows maybe he can be the guy who really does it.
He's one of "Bear's Boys". I would like to see him do well also. He may not want to do it, but when Saban moves on, I would like for him or someone like him to come in and be at Alabama for a long time.
