OK guys.... I'm planning on showing up in Florida on Oct 14, and I'll be heading home on the 17th. I will have the wife in tow, and a work friend who you guys haven't met yet that loves to shoot things. I plan to kill some pigs, but also want to have some meet ups with as many Skyboxers as we can muster. So... is anyone else down near Ralph willing to throw out some ideas as to a place to gather, and maybe what you'd like to do? I know a some of you may not be up to getting down in the mud and would rather play a few holes of golf so start thinking about organizing that. I plan to base in Fort Myers as Ralph suggested, but have no idea what's there. So start throwing out ideas and we'll see what sticks. 8)
I'm up for pork chops! As long I don't have to shoot or stick the donor! I'll go fishing though as long as Ralph or somebody will bait my hook!
I'm in. Will change my flight down to the 14th as soon as it's absolutely for sure going to happen. No fishing or hog shooting for me...up for golf...or margaritas on my deck...or whatever gatherings y'all want to get together for.
About 80% sure I can come down for the gathering. Slight possibility I have to pull babysitting duty in NYC.
What are some recommendations for places to stay? We are interested in ft myers or sanibel accomodations. We like the idea of being on the waterfront at beach level, but dont want to get stuck in a converted mobile home.
When you're pricing flights, you might want to check out Tampa. If they're significantly cheaper, I can pick folks up on the way down to Ralph's.
Thanks for the offer gip! Question for you local-ish folks: Are there a lot of toll roads around the Ft Meyers area?

No toll roads to bother you. I can put one person up...maybe two if they want to share a small bedroom with bunk beds. Or three if somebody wants the couch.
What might be the agenda? At KC we all met at a Sports Bar Friday night and then the next day tailgated before a KC Royals game Sat Night. Seems like we need a common meeting place for Friday night and something on Sat, a picnic or something.
I think I said that! Terry has self nominated to be the scheduler! I like the idea of getting the meet up started Friday night... but judging by the available flights we might not make it into town until 6:30 so we might be a little late to the party. I need to hear from Ralph about what the best hunting times are. Here we generally have to catch the porkers in the early morning, or right at dusk into dark. I have NO intentions of being out in those fields too long after dark so daylight is my preference. You can't see a Burmese python coming at ya in the dark! I'm not leaving until Monday, so if I don't hunt until Sunday that's fine too. Ya'll think of things to do, and I'll work around it to be at most of it. 8)
A lot depends on who all comes and where y'all want to stay. I'll be at my place...a little bit of a drive to Ralph's but that's cool. I can put up maybe three guys...small place but at least I have two bathrooms. Those who want to golf or hang out at the beach might do best down by my place. If too many to stay at my humble abode there is a Wyndham on the beach just up the road. Those who want to hunt may do better staying up near Ralph. If y'all want to stay closer to Ralph that's cool...saves him driving a lot and I don't mind the drive. There are a lot of great places to meet near my place but I don't mind driving up closer to Ralph. I guess it depends on who all comes and what they want to do. Anyway...the invite is out there.
Well... I'm committed. FLight is booked. Arriving in Tampa the 14th about 2, and heading home about 6 on the 17th.
Thanks very much gip, but I think we're going to need to rent a car. I've got the wife and a buddy along (and the extra luggage). We'll need to be able to get out to Ralph's place at unknown hours... If we were just going down to Ft Myers to meet and hang out I'd take ya up on it. Again... thanks for the offer!
Haven't meant to ignore the forum lately but life's been whacked out at every turn lately...The Ag investment has been struggling because of our long term disease issues with citrus, El NiƱo created havoc with the weather and we only lost $100k on the peaches :? , my Italian investor is more concerned with snow pac depths in the Swiss alps than running a business, our son informed us that oops didn't get the grade in Horticulture Physiology so one more semester is required, another apartment lease, food etc...Son was rear ended Friday night coming home from the internship he's working this summer, truck is totaled, doing the insurance waltz now and wife and I are driving to Tampa tomorrow to buy him another truck... Other than that, not much happening, kinda boring, raining everyday
Damm what a crybaby I have become....Lulz, we met our son in Tampa today and ahemm, he informed me it was "ADVANCED" Horticulture Physiology he has to take over again and he actually passed the class but not high enough to satisfy his degree requirements...Still smells like money to me... Oh yeah, 2014 Nissan Frontier 6 cylinder with 34,000 miles for $18,500...He's back in the saddle again.... Nothing fancy but efficient..
Nothing fancy? Hell I'd take that now! 8) I finished college driving my Mom's 13 yr old Suburban that smoked like it ran on coal.
