As we close in on the ten year anniversary of 9/11 I not only give pause to those who were murdered ten years ago and the effect this had on their families but the reality of what America has become. Witnessing Homeland Security yesterday pull over truckers while holding machine guns was a reminder of what we have lost in freedoms we took for granted before 9/11.... Do you like photography? Watch where you point in this era: http://www.petapixel.com/2011/09/07/how-photographers-rights-have-eroded-since-september-11th/ http://www.petapixel.com/2011/08/15/long-beach-police-on-lookout-for-photos-with-no-apparent-esthetic-value/
re: cameras I think technology would have eroded many privacy rights no matter what happened. When everybody has a camera, then what's more important: the freedom to take pictures or ... actually, there is no right to privacy.
As always I am enlightened with your commentary JO'Co : I'll take my camera and go home, I'm not going to play anymore....
Basically, to both poke fun at and evoke the commentary of the past 10 years... The terrorists are winning. They have altered how we live. They have altered our freedom. We give away what we, as Americans, are entitled to. It's often a small first compromise that leads to sweeping changes and then we look back 10 or 20 years later wondering where it all went. It all starts with a small compromise. Also since that day, we've undergone this crazy internal struggle as a nation that centers around the rights of human beings around the planet. In my opinion, they do not have the same rights as we do. Our current administration disagrees with me. We should be willing to do whatever it takes to preserve our freedoms. The problem is, we're caught up in this ******** moral dilemma over whether or not we should afford our protections to others.
Hmm am I the only person who remembers Bin Laden saying ten years ago in some scruffy rock strewn environment that the key to beating America is not to go head to head with them. But to drag them down economically by making them invest billions of dollars (Its actually trillions) until it brings their economy down and they no longer can afford to be relative. Well if that's the argument on who won this war then they did. Yes he is dead but that was always in the equation. Weigh in the losses of our young men and woman then add the losses of our freedoms. Then look and see if this terrorist group is affecting us even still today.... :?:
 re: right to privacy Sooner or later the Supreme Court will be forced to reverse itself on Roe v. Wade and all other cases based on a right to privacy that doesn't exist. They're painting themselves into a corner. There's a reason that Madison didn't include that in the Bill of Rights: if a right to privacy exists, then criminals can perform their criminal acts in private without legal consequences. It would legalize almost everything...
Yuuuuuuuuuuuppp I've long been hand in hand agreement with Krebsie on how to sort all this. Humanitarians would often think our approach unthinkable. American parents of KIAs would consider it a favor. It's all in who you really want to side with really... and the crux of the matter is, Americans are soft these days and have no stomach for the fight.
