This isn't news as the deal was annoucned last year and everybody marveled at the amount of money that will be flowing into SEC coffers from the deal. But this article addresses how another conference looks at that deal and it's impact on them. Specifically the ACC. This is from the linked article on their Spring Meeting which is going on right now. http://clemson.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=945656 Irish deal at 9 million which at one time seemed great is now just average, I don't know how much more we get for TV appearances on the road. But clearly in the athletic arms race the SEC schools have the advantage at this time. For the Irish to get back to that level it will take more than a single year of being good we're going to need to have a sustained level of excellence so that when our contract is up next that we have some leverage in negotiation. ....and you think ND can outbid Florida for Urban? I don't see where ND will get the money you guys have thrown around after they have to pay off Chuckles. I think your best bet is to hope Weis can take advantage of this year's vulnerable schedule than it is to sit and hope for Meyer. Then again....after the NCAA hammers the Trogs maybe Petey is tired of the blondes and SouCal sun.....maybe.....nah...
I didn't say ND could outbid UF for Urban and in fact even if Urban were to come to ND at sometime in the future I doubt very seriously if it is because ND outbid UF. He's established at UF, solidly, he's not an ND alum. If he leaves UF it will be like Spurrier for the NFL not for another college job that offers him more money.
