Tennessee takes out Arkansas. Georgia destroys Auburn. Ole Miss eliminates South Carolina. Vanderbilt leads LSU half way through the first half. Florida, Kentucky, Alabama, and Mississippi State got to sit out the first round. Tomorrow, 11-March: Alabama plays Georgia at Noon central Kentucky plays Ole Miss ay 14:30 central Florida plays Tennnessee at 18:30 central Mississippi State plays the winner of Vandy/LSU at 21:00 central
I'm afraid Alabama needs to win the whole tamale to make it to the tournament. I guess Kentucky and Vandy are in already? Florida too?
LSU goes down so that leaves Alabama, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State in the West and Florida, Kentucky, Vandy, Georgia, and Tennessee in the East. My predictions for today's games: Alabama takes out Georgia Kentucky beats Ole Miss Tennessee takes out Florida (hard to win 3 out of 3) Vandy beats Mississippi State. This means that Alabama would play Kentucky and Tennessee would play Vandy on 12-March. Bama and Tennessee win those matches and play for all the marbles on Sunday 13-Mar. I have to go with Tennessee in this match. I think Tennessee is in the NCAA if we get to the final game win or lose.
If UF wins today they will probably be a 3 seed in Tampa. Lose.....and they're a 4 seed in Tampa. UF looks solid for the NCAA either way.
Florida won the regular season SEC, is the highest ranked team in the SEC so they are in. It's a matter of whether we are a 2,3 or 4 seed. Having to beat Tennessee three times in one season is a tall order. In my opinion Alabama should be in, I don't understand why they are considered on the bubble. They had a 12 - 4 regular season record in the SEC, second to only Florida.
I think the RPI hurts Alabama. Kentucky was the only ranked team we beat. With the limited at large slots available, I think we are out unless we win the SEC tournament. Great show coming up!
As I wrote earlier: That, and NCAA motivation is the only two reasons I can give for my prediction. Florida is in, no argument there. Tennessee, however, in my opinion, is not. We will be playing for our spot in the NCAA tourney.
Alabama looks to be out of it and then marches back to the tie at the end of regulation... a tie that would not have happened if the Georgia coach didn't call a time out with 0.8 seconds on the clock as one of the Georgia players makes the winning shot... the winning shot that didn't count because of that time out. Congrats to Bama. They dominate the overtime to win by 6. On to Kentucky vs Ole Piss... er, uh, Miss.
I'm sure of that Tom. Hey, I would like to wish you good luck tonight but just can't bring myself to do it.
So far, my first two predictions panned out. Please let me keep that streak going. We have everyone available... maybe not 100% healthy, but everyone available. The key is how will the Tennessee legs hold out? Florida has the advantage of resting last night. Tennessee has the advantage of continuity of continuous play. We'll see which advantage actually pays off, Game starts in about 90 minutes. Go Vols!
Don, Bill, I hope you are right (I think). Alabama just doesn't have the offense to go very far in the tournament in my opinion, but hell who would have thought they could win this many.
I couldn't get the game here and we have company who wanted to play cards. My daughter has been keeping me updated by texting and I just picked it up on the compter. Not live but updating on Sportsline. Strange game Tenn lead at halftime 34- 29 but Gators took control in the second half and lead 80-65 with just over 2 minutes left. I didn't expect this and in fact thought beating a team like Tenn three times in a season would be difficult. I hope they are not in the same bracket as us in the NCAA.
