The Southeastern Conference is asking for a rule preventing football teams from holding practices during spring break.

The move comes nearly a week after Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh said on national signing day that the Wolverines would practice in Florida over spring break starting later this month.

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said Tuesday that "intentionally public and prominent" decision seems to be a move in "the wrong direction" amid the talk about easing time demands on athletes.

CBSSports.com first reported the SEC's request presented to the new NCAA Football Oversight Committee, which met on Tuesday.

Sankey says he asked the committee to "place it on their agenda for timely review." He also wants to discuss the issue of spring break practices for other out-of-season sports.

Harbaugh certainly has gotten the attention of the SEC, his traveling camps in the Spring/Summer didn't go over too well with the SEC either.

I laughed so hard at the irony here last night that I couldn't even reply. You know what? It's still that funny the next day. You guys are just making it better.

All of this is just chaff. I guess if your conference champ gets the **** kicked out of them, you have to come up with some kind of gimmick to get some publicity. If this is what turns Michigan's program around then I guess he will be considered a genius. Of course, y'all would be going crazy if Saban did something like this. Hey, maybe Harbaugh can also do a dance show at Disney World and have a sleepover and pillow fight with Mickey and Minnie. I'll bet that will help recruiting too. I say let him do it. After a couple of weeks down south in March, his players may not want to go back to the snow and cold in Michigan. 8)

    From Harbaughs Twitter account:

Does anybody find whining to be attractive? Just curious...

I am curious how Urban is viewing all this from a recruiting standpoint? He has been baited several times by the media, but has never spewed forth any answers. (Probably wise on his part)

Oh come on now, Saban has lived in the grey area of recruiting since he came to Alabama. There's no point in bitching about it because it's legal. In comparison to some other SEC teams, it's down right school boy. Still, the conference of 'if you ain't cheatin' you ain't trying.' filing something like this is pretty hilarious.

Whenever an SEC team does it, it's considered cutting edge genius. When someone else finally does it, the SEC files a grievance demanding immediate attention. Surely, you see the humor in that?

    Weird discussion.

So all of a sudden Harbaugh comes up with ideas to try and make his program and himself attractive to recruits and everybody goes bonkers.

Why didn't anybody else think of that? (sarcasm emoticon).

He's got everybody talking about him, for kids he's recruiting I imagine that is a good thing. For the coaches he's recruiting against, I'm sure they despise him. Coaches don't like change and they like doing business like they have always done. New guy on the block coming in with all these new ideas and angles in recruiting bound to ruffle some feathers.

I saw a while ago some comments by Meyer who said they wouldn't be changing up much but that he was always open to new ideas and will keep his eye on what he's doing. Secretly they probably have war room meetings about this, I'm surprised somebody hasn't modified that Hitler scene that has been used for so many college football situations and have Harbaugh and Meyer.

On the other hand, Meyer is off to a great start in 2017 recruiting and showing no signs of letting up on continuing to bring a lot of top talent to Columbus.

Michigan is ranked in the top 5 for 2017 in the early polls, Ohio State on the edge of the top 10 based mainly on them losing a ton of players to the NFL. But while Urban might be playing new guys, you can bet they are studs just need the chance to get on the field. That game in Columbus might be interesting, I could see Ohio State bringing out those German Sheppards again!

    Stu,

It might be small in numbers but it's already got a load of highly ranked players, you've got Bossa's brother and probably the top DL in the country from Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas, he's a kid ND fans were really hoping would come our way as we have had several good players from Gorman recently.
