Tennessee to be #3 in the SEC East. I would have felt better if we were picked dead last, but I'll take only Florida and Georgia being picked ahead of us. Go Vols... Get Angry... Show them what you can do! Final Tennessee comment was: Maybe Cutcliff can turn Ainge into a Manning. If that happens, look for the high dollar alumni to press for Cutcliff for head coach and start sending moving vans to Fulmer's house. :?
Tom, How big is the Cal game for Fulmer? I get a sense that it will be so hyped by gametime that a Tenn loss will set this team back more than it should.
Not that clear cut. Tennessee expectations are to get back in the chase for the SEC title before we look to national. A loss to Cal does not hurt that first step. Of course we want a win. But if we lose with a good effort and no bonehead plays, then it will not be devastating.
I suppose if the SEC is the thing and UT demonstrates improvement even in a loss to Cal then the fans will be disappointed but forgiving. On the other hand if the offense struggles and especially at Qb and the Vols lose by 10 points or more then despair is right around the corner and the Florida game makes or breaks the seaosn.
After last season, our main expectation is for some form of competent offfensive play. I will be happy if we only win seven games as long as we win 9 the next and 11 the next. We also must not lose games due to a QB panicing and throwing up lame ducks. I'm not planning on the next season being my last. I want to see improvement and am ready to be patient as long as I am seeeing progress. I am not going to be part of a linch party that wants to see Fulmer fired. I was part of only three Prodigy members that supported Majors to the bitter end. I will also support Fulmer until that point as well. Bill Battle was the only coach that I wanted to see leave. I was 17 at that time. Battle took control of a very successful Tennessee program and ran it into the ground. Johnny Majors had his hands full taking over the program from him.
I have never agreed with the treatment that Majors received. I guess as you said before maybe you can't blame Fulmer for stepping in when he had the chance but then again it left a taste of distrust in my mouth that's been hard to let go as you know. I'm ususally pretty hard on Fulmer and that's a major reason why.
8 out of 22 is pretty huge. I didn't think UT's class was all that highly rated to start with and this can't help.
Only a few BCS conf schools had their whole class qualify, Texas was one of them. The Irish also had all their freshmen qualify, although they don't mention us in the article because we aren't a member of a BCS conference. Also I would think that Air Force, Navy and Army had 100%. I wonder how FSU did? Terry
This is not all due to academics. For example, the Smith kid was dismissed for DUI. I am seeing a trend of disipline that may pay dividends in the future.
