Rumor has it that UNC is being considered also... I'm tellin' ya it's coming....C'mon ND...grab a seat on the B1G train before they're all gone!!
Re: ND <r><QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> I don't know Tim....maybe because the point here is the perception that super conferences are starting to grow before our eyes, and it appears that the Big East and ACC are starting to Crumble. <br/> <br/> I would think whatever remains of the Big ACC conf wouldn't be that sexy to a sports fan.<br/> <br/> So if it's that important to ya, stay independent....I just think the way things are going lately, the possibility of them forcing your hand is real.<br/> <br/> But hey, your right, why the B1G? Dave says you guys are the Florida Fightin' Irish now anyway, maybe the SEC would be a better fit...to hell with location and academics when it comes to football.</r>
ND <t>In my opinion, ND should only join a conference for FOOTBALL when they HAVE too. If the ACC falls apart before that happens so be it. Until they change the provisions that exist for ND to be able to play in BCS games there just isnt any good reason to do so. Big 10, ACC, BIG 12, whatever. I'm sure we can get into a conference for football when it becomes necessary. Someone will take us. Until then, ND can enjoy the benefits of being independent over playing in a conference. As far as I'm concerened, for the time being we can have our cake and eat it too. You'd feel the same if it applied to Nebraska. I'll take my cake for now.</t>
I see rumors that Tenn will deal with the penalities and hire Jim Tressel and then I see that Jimbo Fisher wants out of FSU and is interested in both the Auburn and Tenn jobs. I have a hard time believing either.
I agree with most of the versions that I have seen that the "penalties" are for all practical purposes insignificant, but I just have a hard time seeing him in the SEC for whatever reason. The only time he's ever ventured out of the midwest was a one year stint at Syracuse as an assistant there in the early 80's.....he's 59 years old, not certain he's looking for that kind of change. I'd love to know what he's thinking now..... If he were hired I'd become a huge UT fan overnight.....
The only midwest job I could see JT taking would be the Nebraska job. Let's face it there are only 4 top jobs in the Big 10 and right now OSU and M are sewed up and PSU is toxic. I think he and the Vols would be a good fit, both needing a fresh start. It would probably take 4 or 5 yrs. to get them back to where they were.
I agree with that Gip, I always thought he'd make a good NFL coach tho.....The Browns would be a natural for him. Just not sure what JT wants to do....
I could see Jimbo leaving FSU, he is not happy with the ACC and would probably be willing to jump to the SEC. He does have history with the current Tenn AD who was at FSU before jumping to the SEC. Good call on his part.
I would be surprised if Virginia splits from Virginia Tech, that was a real bone of contention in Virginia when Va Tech ended up coming into the ACC. The politicians kept Virginia from approving expansion unless Va Tech was included. But if it did that might push Va Tech and either Duke, NC State or North Carolina to the SEC. I guess the Super Conferences are coming.
I might add that the Big 12 might then get to add FSU. If all this happens I wonder what happens to Miami?
Well all the rumors are that UVA/GaTech to the Big 10 for the CIC. Va.Tech and NCState to the SEC and FSU/Clemson to the Big 12. At that point you have to wonder what happens to the ACC. They would drop down to the level of the MTN West with the new teams coming in from the old big east and what is left.
How sad that BC and Miami find themselves with a conference running away from THEM. Perhaps what's left of the Big East could joing the ACC.
Opps, I left NC State off my comment above so I added them. Va Tech and one of Duke, NC State or N. Carolina. I think NC State probably would be most likely from the North Carolina schools. The ACC could be in trouble even after adding all those teams from the Big Easy.
It's interesting, since reading the rumors of the ACC imploding on this board I have not read any concern from the Cane boards I visit. Not that this means a thing, they may not know about the rumors. I can say that everything I read Golden is here to stay at Miami and should only improve upon the talent he has brought in. He may do this with scholarship reductions once the NCAA gets around to whacking us but let it come, I'm tired of waiting...
