New topic for discussion of March Madness. Western Kentucky and BYU got off to a great start and both coming back from sizable margins, to win the first games of the tournament last night. Syrcause is going to have to play without their center Melo due to eligibility issues.

It would appear that maybe some of the startling upsets have moved by the wayside. The B1G TEN is faring better that I anticipated with wins by Indiana,Wisconsin and Ohio State yesterday.

Kentucky looks really strong. North Carolina might be able to challenge them, but I do not see anyone else capable of beating them.

Gators caught a break when Mizzou went down and have a great shot at the Sweet 16 today against Norfolk State.

If so next up would be Marquette.

I am still picking Kentucky as the eventual winner.

Well not shocking but Stu's Cats are back up on the top at this point. I think it's taken him a couple of years to train the new cat though. :)

I'm pretty sure though that Stu does not use this method, his cats no doubt do a lot of studying and following NCAA basketball during the year.

Don't wanna jinx em but Florida is 17-2 in the NCAA Tournament since 2005-06.

    Pretty good by anyone's standards.

The games will become a bit more tougher for most of the remaining teams. Ohio has four teams in the sweet sixteen. Oho State, Cincinnati, Xavier and Ohio University in Athens. That is a first for any state in the history of the event.

There is no love lost between the Bearcats and Ohio State. We will have our hands full.

I'm confused, when Michigan and Ohio State play Brady Hoke and Bobda refer to the game with Ohio, so now we have Ohio and Ohio State in the Sweet 16...which one is the one who is rivals with Michigan? Or is Ohio State the JV squad for Ohio and has somehow made it to the tournament?

    Terry,

Hope this help. I refer to OSU as "Ohio" and the Bobcats as The State University of Ohio.

Stu, The Boilers left everything on the floor against a Kansas team that just may win in all. Purdue outplayed and out toughed a far more talented team. Purdue's students and alums deserve to be proud of the tenacity, intelligence, and heart that the Boilermakers displayed yesterday and by the resilancy and courage of Hummel to overcome two catastropic ACL injures and show yesterday what a great player he is.

My heart went out to Hummel in that post game conference. A shame he had to end his college career on that note. A wonderful effort on his part and yet lose in the final moments.

I didn't think this news item warranted a new topic, so I'm posting it here.

Shaka Smart has said no to Illinois. I hope they don't come after Butler's Brad Stevens. There are plenty of rising coaches out there who would make great candidates.

Smart is in a good position right now, the question as always is can he maintain VCU and thus his desirability? I think Butler has made a big salary commitment to Stevens haven't they? Maybe not the same level as he might command at a higher level school but it's over 1M/year. He seems very happy to stay at Butler just like Mark Few at Gonzaga.

Terry, yes, Stevens makes over $1 million in annual salary. I think it might be $1.5 mil, but I'm not certain.
