He was a Jr. at Texas and already a big star when I enrolled in the Fall of 1964.

We had some great players on that team. They went to the Orange Bowl my freshman year and played in the 1st ever night game for a major Bowl. They beat the Joe Namath led Crimson Tide with a dramatic goal line stand.

Nobis was a 2 way player one of the last. Played OL and MLB. MLB was where he was drafted by the Falcons. He had a great Pro career but didn't get much recognition playing in Atlanta.

He was 74, too soon. RIP

I remember him well as a great linebacker at Texas and with Atlanta. I don't recall knowing that he was a two-way player at Texas. There were two college/NFL players in the 60s who for me defined defensive toughness, Nobis and Dick Butkus. Both had great pro careers.

    R.I.P.

    :(

I agree with Sid: Nobis and Dick Butkus.

It seems to me that Nobis was the smaller more mobile version of Butkus. Not quite as physical but quicker.

I remember him well. He was a great player who came along in an era that may have been the beginning of the golden age of MLBs

    Butkus, Joe Schmidt, Nitchke etc.
