Can't think of anybody who impacted baseball more than Steinbrenner. I didn't really care for him, but his impact on the game was undeniable. RIP
I didn't like him for about the first 20-25 years of his ownership of the Yankees. During the past 15 or so years I came to respect him for his passion for winning and his dedication to excellence. He built an organization which is the envy of all of MLB. As AJ said above, ya gotta respect that. R.I.P.
No owner ever loved his team more or put their own money where their mouth was like Steinbrenner. He did a lot behind the scenes for a lot of people. Big Ohio State fan too. Now he can go to Monument Park where he belongs.
I'm not a Yankee fan, but I've always admired the effort that George put into having a championship team. I think most baseball fans would have loved having him own their favorite team. PJ in Jersey
George was a Bull Gator and was an incredibly generous person to the University and other places in the state of Florida. Here's an article about him from GatorCountry. The part about Roger Maris is interesting. Steinbrenners Touch Seen At Florida
And former Purdue Assistant Football Coach. This from a Purdue List Fella: "One of Purdue's lesser known assistant coaches died of a heart attack this morning. While he had some success after later in life his major claim to fame is his association with Purdue University."
