Smart may end up being a great coach but it sure looks short sighted letting Richt go.
What a great turn of events for Miami.

What did Richt win at Georgia?? Two SEC titles? Only 5 teams won SEC titles in those 15 years, and his teams were one of them. They were regularly in the hunt in the East and let's be real here.. he coached during the absolute pinnacle of hay days in the SEC.

There's a lot of machismo BS out there that puts ridiculous demands on these guys but right now you've had (during his tenure) the greatest Auburn team that ever was, 2 of the greatest LSU teams, Florida teams that rivaled the dominance of Spurrier's best and Saban is walking in Bear Bryant territory. That's a mighty rough road to be wandering and he was doing it clean. Auburn and LSU were having success with guys that he booted. I think they'll like Coach Richt just fine down in Miami.

I agree with Corey. Smart is a great Defensive Coordinator but that's all we really know. So UGA traded a known top tier Head Coach for a promising Coordinator. I think at best it is a lateral trade and at worst a step down. Smart had better step up quickly. In three years, if he is winning 9 or 10 games a year then what has UGA gained? :?

For me this is one of the highlights of Mark Richt, can anyone ask for more than 9 or 10 wins per season with a shot at the National Championship? Having an alumni as coach who has proven to be a winner with character is too good to ask for...
