I guess at my age I shouldn't be surprised but based on the comments that were talked about during the Rutgers telecast it seemed like he would be staying at West Virginia.

    We shall see. Money talks.

From all acounts I have read, WVU will not let him go without putting up a big fight.

Money talks, but it will take lots of it to pry him away and Bama is already deep in the hole with Shula's buyout and facilities upgrades.

It would be interesting to see who are the real power brokers at BAMA. It sure as heck doesn't look like the AD is running this ship.

I hear there is some issue over upgrading of facilities at WV?

I don't know if Rodriguez is the guy or not. I did read an account where someone at WVU said that they would like for Rodriguez to stay but that they were not prepared to get into a bidding war. Also that last year WVU had agreed to upgrade facilities but that fundraising for the upgrade had not started. Hell, Spurrier didn't even have to talk to Alabama and he got a contract extension and a raise. Coach Rodriguez may be doing the same.

Yeah this time of year a lot of coaches use the interview to get raises. I think when you guys hired Mike Price about 3 guys included Frank Beamer got raises. I know that when the Irish hired George O'Leary and Willingham a bunch of guys suddenly got raises, including Stoops and Slick Rick.

When Steve Spurrier left the Gators there were reports, which I believe, that Bob Stoops had accepted the job. Then he gets a big, big raise and stays at Oklahoma.

Seems some of these coaches get their biggest raises when someone else comes calling.

KP, Any updates on the Rich Rod situation?

I'll be really surprised if he leaves West Virginia. He's too much of a cult hero there and his roots run deep. Bama is offering $ 2 mill a year. If WVU can increase from 55% to 70% of that, I think he would stay.

Better to be a big fish in a small pond. In the BE, he will challenge for a BCS bowl year after year and in the process maintain his reputation as a great coach. In the SEC he will be lucky if he does it once every 3 years with off years inbetween just like the rest of the SEC teams, and in the process lose some of his luster and status as a premier coach.

I don't think it's easy to land a big name coach at Bama or any of the high profile schools unless they have an open checkbook.

I think Bama is better off looking elsewhere, preferably a favorite son.

The media is doing on number on the WV and Bama fans. It's like they have no accountability for spreading false rumors.

He decided not to come. I honestly don't blame him either. He can probably stay at WVU his whole life. If he wins a conference championship every once in a while he will be the hero. No one expects a NC. He ended up getting about a 100% pay raise out of it. Not bad for a weeks work. :?

More intrigue at that Univ of Alabama regarding the coach search.

I wonder why Charley Strong is not a candidate.

Black helicoptor crowd. If the Alabama Board of Trustees was that smart or that powerful, why hasn't the University of Alabama gotten their own Head Coach hired already? :?:

That's a good question KP, but I think another good question is why they blocked the hiring of Fisher.

Somehow it doesn't make sense to me that UAB can't make those decisions on their own.

I don't envy Alabama fans right now and hope it straightens out to everyone's satisfaction.

Houston Nutt might be glad to get out of Arkansas right now and I believe he's a pretty good coach.

The Board of Trustees is made up of folks from all of the Alabama University system not just the University of Alabama. I don't know why they turned down the UAB choice but I don't see how Alabama would have benefited from it. I wish the BOT was that smart but they let Shula get fired and they haven't been able to hire his replacement so, like I said, I don't think they have the ability to mount a conspiracy.

That has been out there for several weeks and Saban said he never talked to them. What I've read is that Jimmy Sexton is the one driving all of this and putting out the disinformation, he is supposedly positioning Houston Nutt to take the Alabama job, Nutt is also his client.

I'm not sure what is going on right now. Local sports talk is proposing everyone from Parcells at Dallas to Johnson at Navy. Pick one. If I had my druthers, I think I would like to see Jeff Bower from So. Miss. or just keep Kines for now. The players really seem to be rallying behind him at the moment.
