Looks like now Sanchez in NY only has to worry about rookie Geno Smith coming off the bench. Finally the Jets jettisoned Tim Tebow today from their wretched lair of ineptitude.
It will be interesting to see if anybody is willing to give Tebow a roster spot given the circus that follows him where ever he goes. Two of the greatest collegeQB's in the last 25 years Tim Tebow and Vince Young are busts in the NFL.
The media circus....plus lukewarm to poor perception of his QB skills ( not helped in the least by the Jets ).....will serve to limit Tebow's opportunities. Me thinks the Jax GM put his foot in his mouth from a PR standpoint by saying he had no vision at all of signing Tebow to the Jags. That team had better win this year...and if not....it had better not be because of poor Qb play or that fan base might get nasty.
Jets.... "worst move ever": http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/story/_/id/9222945/new-york-jets-tim-tebow-debacle-was-jets-worst-move-ever
The Jets signed him as a PR move and they treated him badly the entire time he was here. The should have released him the moment las t season ended but waited until now. With that said I don't see anyone spending a roster spot on him now.
They treated him like a 4th stringer who had never played a down in his life. The kid accomplished more in the playoffs for Denver than the Broncos could manage a year later with Peyton Manning and yet he never really got a chance with the Jets.....and never deserved the treatment that he received from Ryan. What an asshole Ryan must truly be.
This is where you and I part ways. I don't think anyone in the NFL will waste a dime on him as a QB. He has little or no value at that position. An Arena team offered him a job yesterday. If he really wants to play, he should go to Canada. Better QBs than him took that option and came back better than ever.
Seriously the kid completed a 10 yd pass that his WR took to the house, that was the difference. If Denver hadn't had a rock solid defense the Tebow led offense would have gotten them 3 or 4 wins max.
So Timmy took Denver farther into the playoffs than did his successor and beat a #1 NFL defense in the process. His replacement threw three picks...one very critical when it counted in this season's round one loss. Tim could just as easily have thrown a deciding pick vs. the Steelers....but he threw a winning TD instead. That is not to say he is better than Manning.....not in the least. But the kid earned more of a chance than the Jets....or Krebs is willing to give him. FYI... Tebow was standing on his own 14 and threw a strike to a completion at the 38.... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/08/tim-tebow-broncos-steelers-overtime-demaryius-thomas_n_1192962.html Manning threw from his 25 to his 46: http://thebiglead.fantasysportsven.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/manning-OT-pick-1-12-13.gif Manning has 8 one and dones in his NFL playoff appearances and a cumulative 9-11 playoff record. By contrast Tom Brady is 17-7 in the NFL playoffs.
Good info about Manning and Brady. But we are discussing Tebow. 30 NFL teams have one opinion. You have another.
I don't believe this is true. Unlike they were with Tebow, Manning's Bronco's had a bye in the first round. Both Timmy's and Peyton's lost in the conference semi finals. Keep in mind Manning had the Bronco's ahead in the final minute when the defense gave up a long TD pass to put the game in overtime. Denver lost to THE EVENTUAL SUPER BOWL CHAMPION RAVENS.
2011 Steelers - 12-4 record 2012 Ravens - 10-6 All I am saying is that Tebow had one season at the helm.....and he had great results.....enough to earn a shot somewhere else. The way the Jets treated him was abysmal.....and his lack of of opportunity in the NFL otherwise is highly questionable given his results from 2011. The "safe" thing is for GMs to shun him...... the risky thing is to give him a chance....
They are in this to win championships and make money. Why would they not use a certain qb to do that? It seems that if 20 GM's were bidding on Tebow, then MCG's position would be supported, but apparently there are no bidders. Are they all wrong?
Tebow was a great college football player, a certain HOF player. A whole lot of great college players aren't great Pro players. That is Tebow.
You're kidding, right? So here we are in the land of grand NFL conspiracies in which they conspire to keep themselves from winning titles and making money?!?!? When Denver put Tebow on the trading block, only NYJ and Jax showed any interest at all. No one was interested when the Jets wanted to swap him out. The way the Jets treated him was unprofessional and cruel, but that doesn't mean he's being cheated by the other teams who just don't believe in the guy. Several other teams have asked the guy if he's willing to try TE and he has said no. At this point, it's not the NFL killing his dream.. It's him. In the year he got the shot in Denver, you contend that he 'did great' but he only completed 47.8% of his passes. Last season in the NFL, 70 (SEVENTY) QBs passed for a better completion percentage. Assuming his career numbers carried over into last season, he would have been just below Matt Leinart and just above Byron Leftwich. To give you an idea, there were 77 players in the NFL last year with passing stats. That includes WRs, RBs, K, P etc. If you break down the numbers, and compare him to other QBs, you can see just how bad his numbers are.. I wish the kid well and hope he makes it, but I am skeptical about him making it as a QB.
Good analysis. Corey. The two best college QBs I have seen recently in their ability to take over a game were Tebow and Denard Robinson. Robinson was just drafted late as a running back.
Corey, I think NFL GMs get caught up in the passing only aspect of Tim's game. Even looking at that you have to like his 17 - 9 TD over int ratio. Most importantly...other than winning games..... is his unique rushing stats that somehow no one seems to give any significance to. With Denver Tebow rushed for 887 yards, 12 TDs and an average per rush of 5.4 yards which is unheard of for a Qb. Tebow won with his whole package..... not just with an average to below average passing percentage. But hey.... if winning isn't the thing then passing percentage must be I guess.
