Globe Staff Photo: Royal Rooters 1903 World Series October 1903: Boston Royal Rooter Jerry Watson leads the Rooters in cheers at the 1903 World Series at the Pittsburgh Ball Grounds. Organized cheering was still common at the time, much like what one sees at World Cup soccer matches today. The bean-pot hanging from the flagpole probably bore a lightening rod, a familiar symbol of the Rooters. Michael T. McGreevey can be seen in the lower right.
