Florida WR commit Isaiah Johnson has flipped to Wazzu: http://www.cougcenter.com/2015/12/14/10161210/wsu-football-recruiting-wide-receiver-isaiah-johnson-flips-from-florida One retweet congratulated on him moving to the wet and soggy NW (where he could stay dry in the shed with Leach). They were enlightened that Pullman gets half as much rain annually as Gainesville. Another retweet congratulated him on joining the mess that is the Cougars. Although I can't disagree with that, it was pointed out that there were 2,000 more receiving yards to go around in the Cougars offense than there was in the Gators offense this year. I'm happy to have him, but it does seem odd, given the relative prestige of the programs, that he would move all that way.
It's that flipping time of the year. Tenn lost a 5* QB in Hunter Johnson to Clemson, and I saw somewhere else that they lost 3 other recruits to the "flip". Irish are still recruiting a number of kids who are "committed" elsewhere hoping to flip them...while at the same time trying to hold on to their "commits" and not lose any guys. I'd hate to be a college recruiter, listening to kids vow their undying love for your program but still wanting to see what's out there for them.
Texas people feel like they have a shot at some kids that seemed like locks for A&M not so long ago due to unknown issues that are currently troubling the program. I wonder when A&M will make the move to a new OCoord? That has to be effecting recruiting. New Texas duo of Gilbert and Mattox saying all the right things and Gilbert is a former HS coach in Texas which definitely should help the Longhorns down the stretch in recruiting. Strong never has really connected with HS coaches in Texas but now with Gilbert and Jeff Taylor a highly successful HS coach at Gilmer we should be strong with our relationships with HS coaches. That was the one thing Mack Brown did when he came to Texas he got in with the coaches and they liked him and it was a big factor in his recruiting success.
Yes we have new OC and OL coaches from Tulsa, I was referencing issues that seem to be troubling the A&M program right now and how they might provide an avenue for the Longhorns to capitalize on it this year in the closing stretch of recruiting. Our Staff is now set and we've got connections now with HS coaches in Texas.
ND <t>Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) High three-star safety Devin Studstill gave a verbal committed to Notre Dame on Tuesday, picking the Irish over his other finalists: West Virginia, Miami, Texas and North Carolina.<br/> <br/> Studstill, who is ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 43 athlete in the country, might not have the most stars next to his name, but he has been a priority for Notre Dame ever since the staff offered him a scholarship two years ago</t>
Sid... Because of your long good-standing on the Skybox, I am recalling the death squad that was dispatched to your neighborhood when you uttered those words... That would be akin to me saying "USC... Notre Dame... all those private schools are the same to me." ONLY INFINITELY WORSE! Terry, Our troubles will be temporary. I'm sure negative recruiting is at a fevered pictch, and I can't blame those who are doing it. However, last year Kevin had to deal with the same thing while hiring Chavis and that turned out OK for us. I'm not worried until I see Spavital still there when spring ball starts. 8)
Irish have zoomed up the rankings lately...We're currently sitting at #3 on Rivals behind Ohio State and LSU, which may or may not last. There are a lot of top 100 kids out there still unsigned and they will have a lot of impact on the final rankings.
Gators picked up a JC kicker I see that made a 77 yd FG in practice. Looks like their FG kicking woe's are over...also stole him from Alabama. He apparently never actually kicked in a game in Jr. College though, which seems very odd. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/14377506/no-1-rated-kicker-eddy-pineiro-commits-florida-gators
Gators are looking very solid this year.... ranked generally in the top 7 and up by different recruiting services and UF is still on some top recruits that haven't committed anywhere yet. Love the idea of having a legit FG kicker..... would love to be present when he nails his first 3 in the Swamp. Probably will never hear a cheer for a non-game ending FG so loud.
These guys seem to know a lot about recruiting...... http://www.scout.com/college/football/recruiting/a.z?s=73&p=9&c=14&yr=2016
That's interesting, the Gators at #1 a place that they challenged for every year under Urban. Maybe the good ole day's are back! 247 has you at #8, still pretty good. http://247sports.com/Season/2016-Football/CompositeTeamRankings
Ole Miss doing well again. Greg Little the top OT in this class from Dallas is a new verbal. They have 2 5* recruits now and are a top 5 class again. They have been very successful in coming into Texas esp Dallas area and getting players. Reportedly they are also in on a WR from Dallas, who's very good as well. I just don't get it. Freeze has created some excitement each year with some big upsets and stuff, I thought he'd be a 1 or 2 year wonder and then the bagman would bail on him and they'd be back to being Ole Miss.
Not really recruiting news....but didn't want to start a new topic. Kyler Murray, done at Texas A&M. This is a huge shock, I wonder what the story is, there has to be one. I wonder where he'll end up. Aggies only have Jake Hubenak as a scholarship QB. I don't believe they currently have one in the 2016 class, they do have a 5* kid from Las Vegas in the 2017 class.
Kyler isn't done... and not going anywhere. Crazy how this stuff takes off when one guy throws something out on Twitter. Will start the bowl game for us. If I ever had any doubts that Ole Miss was dirty (I didn't) then the Greg Little saga would wipe them away. Seemed like a good kid with lots of talent. Then he got a "handler". He de-committed from A&M when the handler found out we don't play loose with the rules. Not a problem for Hugh Freeze and Co. I'm sure he'll have his loaner Escalade in no time. Hopefully not the same one Tunsil used...
Oh my, thank you Georgia for returning a member of the family....Mark Richt is on fire in his recruiting enhanced by the fact that he is not coaching the upcoming bowl game. He has been present at all 8 high school championship games throughout the state... • Five-star tight end Isaac Nauta surprised the recruiting world on Friday when he stopped by UM for an unofficial visit to meet with Mark Richt and watch the first bowl practice for the Hurricanes. Because of his relationship with Richt, Nauta has added Miami to his top six schools along with Georgia, Michigan, Oklahoma State, Alabama, and Ole Miss. He plans to announce a top three soon and will make a commitment at the Army All-American Game. Miami has a lot of ground to make up, but Nauta does have a lot of respect for Richt. Georgia and Michigan are considered the top two teams. Nauta will enroll early at his future school. • Wide receiver Sam Bruce continues to maintain a strong commitment to Miami. It is clear that as long as Kevin Beard is the wide receivers coach at UM, the Hurricanes should be considered the leader to land Bruce. He is a fan of the hiring of Richt and looks forward to meeting with him face-to-face over the next six weeks. Bruce will visit Miami the final weekend before National Signing Day on January 29th. Florida has long been the main contender for Miami in the race for Bruce, but there are signs that the Gators are cooling on the St. Thomas Aquinas receiver. The Gators may decide to not make a strong push for Bruce during the final stretch. • Vero Beach defensive end Patrick Bethel was the only non-Miami commit to take an official visit to UM this weekend. Bethel is a Miami legacy with his father playing tight end for the Hurricanes from 1987-90. The Hurricanes are in a strong position to land Bethel soon as he is expected to make a decision in the coming weeks. He plans to enroll early at his future school. • Miami continues to be a legitimate player for Miami Central four-star safety Jamel Cook, who is committed to Florida State. Cook is highly impressed with the resume of Mark Richt. Cook’s recruitment will come down to: does he want to stay close to home or experience something new? Which school can offer the most immediate playing time? What defensive back position does that school envision him playing? Cook is eyeing official visits to Florida State, Miami, Alabama, and South Carolina, who is now a player because Travaris Robinson has moved there from Auburn. • Miami Central defensive end Keir Thomas was ultra productive for the Rockets this season, finishing the year with 83 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, and 20 sacks. A one time FSU commit, Thomas wasn’t offered by Miami until Al Golden was fired. Thomas is searching for his next school and Miami could be a significant player if they decide to make a move. At the moment, Thomas is looking strongly at South Carolina because of his relationship with their new head coach and defensive coordinator, Will Muschamp and Travaris Robinson. Miami hasn’t shown much interest since Richt has been hired. Thomas admits he will give Miami a very strong look if Richt brings in a defensive coordinator that plays an attacking 4-3 style of defense. Miami would be wise to give Thomas a strong look. He is a good fit as a defensive end for a 4-3 front. • Richt has already reached out to speedy Viera wide receiver Tre Nixon since taking the Miami job. Nixon was a target for Richt at Georgia. With that being said, Miami has plenty of ground to make up in the race for Nixon with Penn State, Georgia, Florida, and Texas A&M establishing long relationships. His relationship with his future wide receivers coach is an important factor for Nixon, who finished his senior season with 1,243 yards and 18 touchdowns. Nixon had interest in Miami early in the recruiting process because he viewed himself as a player that had similar ability to former UM standout Phillip Dorsett. • Georgia was in a strong position recruiting Louisiana four-star cornerback prospect Shyheim Carter when Mark Richt was the head coach. Now that he has moved to Miami, Carter admits he is highly interested in learning what UM has to offer with Richt there. Recruiting Carter won’t be easy. He is a one-time Alabama commit and is heavily targeted by the Crimson Tide, Georgia, Michigan, Ole Miss, and Southern California. Carter is an example of Richt opening doors on the recruiting trail as big time prospects in the Southeast are now interested in Miami. • Texas running back Devwah Whaley committed to Georgia for two weeks before he de-committed from the Bulldogs because of the firing of Mark Richt. Now that Richt is at Miami, the Hurricanes plan to make a push for Whaley over the final weeks leading up to National Signing Day. Whaley had a strong connection with Richt that was based on a foundation of having a strong religious faith. Whaley has a great respect for Richt and the way he carries himself. He has already taken official visits to Georgia, Texas A&M, and Arkansas. He has two official visits remaining and Miami is fighting to be one of those schools. Whaley is a north-south, one-cut running back that has great success between the tackles. He rushed for 1530 yards and 21 touchdowns during his senior season. • Coconut Creek athlete Malek Young officially de-committed from Georgia on Friday and is now looking like a strong possibility to Miami. Young made the de-commitment in the wake of news that defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt was taking the same job at Alabama and it appeared he wasn’t in the plans for new UGA coach Kirby Smart. Young plans to visit Miami on January 15th. The Hurricanes are now considered the team to beat for Young, who projects as a cornerback. • As expected going into the weekend, Miami picked up a commitment from Santaluces four-star linebacker Zach McCloud. When Richt was announced as head coach, it was a formality for McCloud to re-commit to the Hurricanes. Miami now has a very strong linebacker group committed in the 2016 class with McCloud joining four-star prospect Shaquille Quarterman and three-star Michael Pinckney. The group will go a long way toward upgrading the overall talent Miami has at that position.
