An interesting recruiting article that I am not sure I agree with. Thoughts? 10 CFB Programs That Are Screwed in Class of 2019 Signing Window
I don't get what Chip Kelly is doing at UCLA. It would seem that there would have been some excitement based on what he did at Oregon and that HS kids would want to play for him. Maybe he'll make something out of those players he has with his coaching and development. I didn't agree with the Irish being on that list, we have a solid class and they should compliment what we already have on campus. We aren't that much off of most of the teams with classes ranked above us, except for the top 5 teams like Bama, Georgia, and Texas
I said at the time that I was relieved that Chip Kelly was not hired at Florida. I just didn't get the feeling he was a good fit for UF. Part of the reason that Dan Mullen has been doing well is that he was a part of Gator greatness and championships and he can easily sell the message to current and prospective players about Gator tradition etc. Kelly would have been an outsider remaining on the outside with his own agenda.... that may or may not work eventually at UCLA but for now looks like a failed approach.
Terry, I agree about Notre Dame, not sure why they are on that list. MCG, I have to admit that I was caught up in the Chip Kelly frenzy when we were hiring. A lot of Gators didn't want Mullen and I have to admit I was no more than lukewarm. However the way he arrived in Gainesville and the enthusiasm he projected sold me rather quickly. Then this season really hooked me on him. We made the best hire for us.
I'm pretty sure Chip Kelly will be fine. That's a team that threw out the sink and started from scratch. They were a much better team at the end of the year than they were at the start. I do believe that Kelly needs to re-embrace the super recruit, but he got burned playing that game when he was at Oregon.
