Is it any wonder UF is about to get stomped into the Swamp mud by FSU? It shouldn't be if you take a look at this new standard for offensive ineptitude: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1864314-floridas-loss-to-georgia-southern-summed-up-in-one-image JFC.....
I would hate to be those two in film session. I did something similar on an end sweep in high school as a senior. I played center and angled downfield after the snap to the playside. I saw a form appearing to my left and wiped him out with a beautiful blind side block. It was our left offensive tackle. In films I cringed as the play approached. When it ran the coach said " Krebs, that's the way to get your head in front on that block". To this day the guy I laid out won't let me forget it.
That's an almost pleasant recall George. After Saturday's embarassment I suspect the same kind of levity will not be exhibited by the Florida coaching staff when that comes up in the film room....
What makes this example damning is that the two are face to face and chicken fighting on a live play. In my example, the victim never saw it coming because we wore the same uniform.
My film room horror story is also from my senior year. In our opening game, I was the only blocker in the backfield in our punt formation. I only had one rule, "never back up." Late in the game they (Quartz Hill HS) ran a stunt to try to block our punt. I got confused and took a step backwards. Our punter, Julio Lopez, punted the ball right up my rear end. The other team recovered and scored a TD to ruin our shutout, so I stayed quiet about what had really happened... In the film room that Saturday, the fateful moment arrived and our head coach shouted "STOP THE FILM!" He grabbed the clicker, reversed the film, then played it again as he quietly said, "Until this moment, I honestly believed that kick was blocked." Then he ran the film backwards and forwards, again and again, with Julio kicking me in the arse with the ball, over and over and over... BTW- Julio later became a rock singer under the name "Butch Whacks" with his band Butch Whacks and the Glass Packs... http://www.butchwhacks.com/bio_JulioLopez.html
Glad to see it on the schedule as rumors of this had been floating around for about a year. But, I wish it had been a home and home series as the Swamp and the Big House are iconic locations. M now has three years to try and master Georgia Southern's offense
Also I'll bet the Gators got a big bonus for the game. Alabama got 4.7M for going to Arlington to play Michigan. Since the rationale for always playing the Citadel at home has been the program needs the money from home games, then I'm guessing that they will make the same or more going to Jerry's World!
I think it's an additional game am I right or wrong? Otherwise you're right they probably are dodging Ga. Southern in order to take on a more beatable Michigan squad.....who in turn is able to sneak out of playing an always dangerous AppSt, UConn or Akron...
I guess UF will really be at a disadvantage seeing as how the only time they have played in Texas was last year vs. an eventual top 5 Texas A&M squad featuring JFF the eventual Heisman winner yet the Aggies were a long time member of the SEC ( 1st SEC game ) and Florida was so familiar with the team and venue ( never played 'em or ever been in their raucous stadium ).... Yep I am sure that between now and the Michigan game we will hear all about how the Gators will be a fish out of water. Heck.... playing #1 Ohio State in Glendale, Az. was nothing compared to this mystery!!
I wouldn't be shocked if UM recieved a bonus payment for playing in the game. Not sure how these made for TV games work with regards to the money. You might assume that both teams get equal money, but then maybe not.
I can't see why Bama or Michigan or Florida would command more money than the other. What would be the justification?
I agree, MCG. The benefit of playing this game at the beginning of the year is that if you win it it sets the stage for the rest of the season. Imagine what Michigan would have looked like if they had beat Alabama in early September?
