Won by the Washington Senators in extra innings over the NY Giants in Griffith Stadium. It shows Walter Johnson pitching for the win. Very cool. It's a little over 4 minutes but worth the time to watch. The footage was recently discovered by the Library of Congress.

Personal footnote: I played as a 15 yr. old in Griffith Stadium in 1959 as a member of the New Jersey state champ Babe Ruth League all-star team. It was a phenomenal experience.

That's a lot of fans for a Babe Ruth League All-Star game and those guys look too old. :)

BTW: That mound looks like it was completely flat.

That's incredible, thanks for sharing. I love open ball parks with lots of foul ground.

Great footage. Makes you wonder what else is out there waiting to be viewed.

Johnson won 416 games with a blazing fastball that was reportedly among the fastest ever. Yet you look at that delivery and you wonder if it was even possible to throw as hard as legend has it.

    Fantastic! What a great find!

    re: Walter Johnson

He was a local from around here: Fullerton, CA. Vin Scully tells the story of the "fastest" pitcher ever this way. Nolan Ryan was asked, "Who was the fastest pitcher you ever saw?" He said, "Koufax." Sandy Koufax was asked the same question and he said, "Bob Feller." When Feller was asked, he said, "Walter Johnson." ... and Vinnie reminded everyone that Johnson threw side-arm...
