Interesting article I just quoted the first paragraph, but the article is longer and with pretty good pictures of all 16 teams. That didn't translate well for a quote. Reseeding the Field
How about Tennessee? Are they the first play in team to make the Sweet 16? I personally am not surprised, the Gators needed some luck to beat them in the Semi Finals of the SEC tournament. And as MCG said above, the SEC was lucky to get 3 teams in the tournament, but all three are in the Sweet 16 and are 7-0 at this point. Anyhow I am looking forward to the games this weekend. I am going to have to record our game with UCLA as I bowl that night and don't get home until about 10:30 but no doubt it will be on one of the tv's at the bowling alley so I will know what is going on.
How can you have had to enter the tournament through a play-in game and not be a 16 seed? I still don't understand that logic from the NCAA... Oh, my bad, it's no longer a "play-in game", it's the "first round". Ugh.
I have the same question Kes, but there are four of those games, two for a 16 seed and I think the other two were for a 10, or so, seed. Go figure.
Found this answer..... "the two play-in games for the 16 seeds are between the worst 4 automatic qualifying teams(won their conference tournament) and the 11/12 seed play-in games are the worst 4 at-large bids, which are better teams."
This article from CBS Sports sums up this year's edition of Donovan's Gators pretty well: "2. Florida's chemistry, balance, and cohesiveness are reminiscent of the Gators' national championship teams. There's nobody remotely close to Corey Brewer, Al Horford or Joakim Noah on this team, but Florida's overall togetherness and willingness to sacrifice is similar to what Billy Donovan had when they won back-to-back national titles in 2006 and 2007. Those Gators were one of the more balanced teams college basketball had seen in quite some time and had three pros up front along with a seasoned floor general in Taurean Green and a lethal sharpshooter in Lee Humphrey. This team is different, but also similar. Much like those teams that won back-to-back titles, Florida is exceptional defensively and possesses an unbelievable will to win because it simply doesn't care who gets the credit. If you're a basketball purist, you'll love the Gators. Honestly, it's hard not to. Man..... if this team had Brewer, Noah and Horford I would rest a lot easier. But they have won 28 straight..... and 21 straight in the SEC. That's phenomenal and a Florida record if not SEC record. I hope they can keep it going.
