He was the last member of the original Pro Football HOF class to pass away. I never saw him play of course, but I've always understood him to be one of the true greats of the game and multitalented. Wasn't he an outstanding punter as well as a QB?
yes, I believe he was a punter..and of course in those days you played 60 minutes ( never came off field)
I read something about him today. Here is some interesting info on just how significant his impact was: -In one season he led the league in passing, defensive interceptions, and punting. -In one game, he threw 4 TD passes and intercepted 4 passes. -He twice threw 6 TD passes in one game. -He once punted 85 yards (probably a lot of roll but still impressive).
Naw Steve's a young guy, he's my age. He went to A&M on a track scholarhip not a football scholarship, it was supposedly on a recruiting trip that Stallings asked somebody about a punter and they told him the best punter in the state was already at A&M on a track scholarship. He made that punt as a rookie in 1969 for the Jets. You're quick with that trivia jiffer!!
