Man did he look poised tonight for the Browns even though he was throwing against the waterboys late in the 4th quarter. I predict he WILL be the starter by the 5th game.
I was not able to watch any of the game, but local press gave him a very favorable review. I just hope they give him ample time to adjust and not throw him to the wolves like Tim Couch! Don
Brady is mentally and physcially tough. Willingham threw him to the Wolves as true freshman, the pounding he took that year from the Boilermakers was one of the worst I've ever seen. Yet he kept bouncing up from the turf and never stopped stepping into his throws, had to throw it 52 times as well. But I do hope that they are patient in Cleveland and don't start him till he's ready. Terry
Look at the physical difference between Quinn and Derek Anderson....striking..but then again Joe Montana was never a physical specimen and he still won a few games.
The one thing I was glad to see was that the Browns fans cheered him when he ran on the field. Ever since his college season ended there has been an undercurrent that the Browns fans didn't want him, that since he didn't go to Ohio State that he was a traitor. They wanted Troy Smith. Then when he held out, there was more ranqour from some Browns fans. I was glad to see him get off to a good start and for the fans to cheer him. I hope he has a lot of success as a Brown QB. Except when he comes to Houston!! His battery mate Jeff Samardzja has move to the Tennessee Smokies of the Southern League and is doing very well. He had a rough go initally down in Daytona and was sent to the bullpen for a few weeks. But he seems to be doing well right now. This is the first time in his life he's ever concentrated on just baseball, always was baseball/football in HS and College. So he's got some catching up to do. I'll feel funny if someday he takes the mound vs the Astros though, or conflicted I should say. Terry
Re: Samardzjia The last I saw he was 2-0 with a sub-2.00 ERA at the AA level. He kind of stunk at A, but the real experts within the organization must know that he has the ability and potential to keep moving up. I wonder if they will call him up when the rosters expand to 40 in September.
Let's put things in perspective, Quinn was playing against the Detroit Lions. The starting secondary of the Lions probably doesn't belong in the NFL. When you get to their 2nd and 3rd string players you're talking about players that may be worse than the ND secondary...and that's pretty bad.
I doubt Quinn's OL was much to speak of either. Bottom line is he had poise and ability and I think he pulls a Jay Cutler sooner than Cutler did in Denver.
Sure, he didn't do anything any other halfway capable quarterback could do...came in and threw against a soft defense giving him the underneath routes and playing against the waterboys at that... However the thing that I liked is that he showed command and control in the huddle...he obviously took charge...something you hardly ever even get the impressions the coaches have been doing. I don't care how good he is...he can't be ready yet...not after all that practice he missed. He needs to play a bit more each chance they get to play him...I'd end the "quarterback soap opera" and start either Charlie Frye or Derek Anderson and play him the whole first half, play Brady the third quarter, and Ken Dorsey the fourth quarter...and I'd release the loser of the Frye/Anderson debate.
Agreed. Saw Parcells last night on ESPN. He's known Crenell (sp?) for over 20 years. He likes Quinn, but said the same thing as you, Stu, that the worst thing you could do to the QB who isn't ready is put him in too soon. He said it could damage the player AND the team psyche. I'd think that he is a credible voice.
We only have to look no further than David Carr and Joey Harrington, 2 QB's who were thrown to the wolves from day 1. Lienart was not pushed into action last year with the Cardinals either, I don't think he was the stqrter till late in the season. Same with Vince Young. Terry
