In the last couple of series in yesterday's game, Minter came all out with a variety of blitz packages. For a five minute span there we looked like the great FSU teams of the early 90s on defense. The UCLA QB barely had time to receive the snap.

Question: Why the hell don't we do that all the time?

Because we would have to rely on man to man coverage by our corners. Terrifying isn't it?

Gip is right, plus it was desperation time....time to sell out at any cost to get the ball back. Fortunately it worked.

C'mon guys. We were playing five and six man packages the whole first half and got shredded. UCLA had 74 total yards in the second half and virtually nothing in the 4th quarter when we were blitzing non-stop.

We have terrible cover backs, the best one out there yesterday was Lambert. We have to take chances.

I don't think that we were "shreaded" in the first half. I think that we had two coverage breakdowns in the secondary that led to big plays. Those occurred when we were in full coverage. Blitzes don't always work and the more your defense relies on them the better prepared your opponent will be for them. When Minter unleashed the dogs, it was too late for UCLA to start adjusting.
