I assume all of you have read about or heard of the big controversy at Florida about our coach commenting on death threats. It's gone viral and he has not really backed it up with other information. A lot of online Gator fans are calling for his head and to fire him. Many of course are just using this as an excuse for what they want any way. What are your thoughts about whether we should get rid of our coach and about Gator fans and their attitudes toward our coaches in general.
To me it's like his comment last year at LSU about "they goy what they deserved" and "ain't it cool".... etc etc.... He just says off the cuff stuff that certainly in this case was highly inappropriate...... almost like some things you can say to draw intense attention from authorities when going through airport security.
My thoughts are: Knowing how insane some fans are I would bet he has gotten at least one death threat. Whether he took it seriously or kept any evidence is another thing. I don't see it as a firing offense. But I'm not a Gator so my opinion carries no weight...
Bill, I can only say what I've done and am doing re: the ND program when something like tis happens. I believe the coach. Sadly, I'm not surprised that he would receive death threats, and I commend him for not wanting to make a big deal out of it. Florida has had more than its share of injuries and suspensions the past couple of years. Is this his 3rd or 4th season? I would give him at least 4-5 years. If the team's performance at that point is not up to the standards set by his predecessors, I'd let him go. As far as those calling for his firing now, it would be white noise to me, as it is with rabid, misguided ND fans. Of course, so far (key words, so far) this season, those jokers are quiet.
I haven't followed this closely. Has he filed police reports? If so, and there is no proof, then he has committed a crime. That makes it easy. If he is just telling tales then you have to question whether you want a coach who would do something like this. Or he could be telling the truth. He should back it up.
I would venture to say that every coach has received death threats. Hell just call it fake news and move on, then it doesn't have to be true.
He can turn it around... call it fake.... claim he never said it.... then blame the media coverage for blowing it all out of proportion. That kind of approach seems to work for others.....
