The 8th game of the Super Series in 1972, the US-Soviet game in 1980 and today's game are the 3 greatest hockey games in the sport's history. When at its best, hockey is a great sport.
Great game, not being much of a hockey fan it's always hard to make comparisons to previous games. But both teams played with a lot of intensity and left it all out their on the ice. Congrats to the Canadians!
A couple of questions. 1. If the goalie is standing on his head is he playing good or bad? 2. If you play the whole game with 6 players a side why do you play the OT with 5 players aside. Maybe football OT should be 7x7, that might be pretty cool!
If the goalie is standing on his head he's stopping everything, that is good. 4 on 4 hockey is more wide open and should lead to more scoring opportunities. Since one goal ends OT it's a better alternative to playing 3 or more OTs to settle the game especially when some players have to play NHL games the day after tomorrow. It used to be that they played 5 on 5 and after one OT they went to a shoot out. I'd rather it was settled with play (even 4 on 4) then in a shoot out.
It was a great game, to bad either team had to lose. But as the Olympics ended the USA set a record for most medals and Candada set a record for most gold medals.
