Proposed NCAA Football Rule Changes

    No problem with the new rules. Anything to shorten those games at ND from the 4 hr. marathons they now are.

    I don't like the rule about starting the clock when a player runs out of bounds.

    I think the chop blocking rule is long overdue, and so is the horse collar rule. The helment rule, in theory, I like, but it sounds like they have left a lot of room for interpretation and that always leads to trouble.

    I don't like the rule moving the starting point to the 40 yd line after a kick out of bounds, the 35 is already way better field position than most teams get when the kick doesn't go out of bounds and they have to return it.

    The only rule I really didn't like was doing away with the 5 yard, minor facemask rule. It does take discretion away from officials but not all facemasks are the same. I guess I'd tell my players, "hey, if you accidently grab a facemask, pull like hell, after all you may as well get your 15 yds. worth."
