Pretty good analysis in my opinion. However one of those teams have to face Ohio State and as I've said elsewhere LSU is the logical choice to me. Of course I'm a SEC fan.
wow <r>3 bites at the golden apple.<br/> <br/> has a team <B><s></s>EVER<e></e></B> been given so many cracks at a national title in one year?<br/> <br/> this system is a farce.<br/> <br/> from the time USC and Oklahoma lost, they have had to scratch and claw back into the national picture.<br/> <br/> all LSU had to do was show up and beat teams in a suspect SEC.<br/> <br/> Quick poll time here, if you Gators could get another crack at this LSU team..how confident would you be of victory? I know both Alabama and Auburn fans are just sick with themselves over the losses to LSU this year. At least Miss State actually beat both of them...against LSU, the Tide and Tigers feel they beat themselves.<br/> <br/> This is your NC contender? blah</r>
To paraphrase the words of MSU coach D'antonio when he heard MI had lost to App State, Perhaps we should have a moment of silence for poor old USC.
Corey, I do believe you have lost all objectivity. The only person I know who thinks the SEC is suspect is you. LSU is the right team in my opinion and in the opinion of the people who voted. As a matter of fact they were solid 2nd in both polls and the computer polls also. The right two teams are in the game.
well Bill <r><QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> Auburn was: (1-1 vs real teams OOC)<br/> -taken to the wire by KState at home. Big wins over Tennessee TECH and New Mexico State)<br/> -beaten by South Florida at home<br/> <br/> Arkansas played: (didn't play anyone in OOC)<br/> -Absolutely no one. (Troy, North Texas, Chattanooga, Florida Intl)<br/> <br/> Mississippi State: (0-1 vs real teams OOC)<br/> -Blasted by West Virginia in their only quality OOC game (but did get wins vs Gardner-Webb, Tulane and UAB)<br/> <br/> Alabama: (0-1 vs real teams OOC)<br/> -Beat Western Carolina and Houston<br/> -Lost to Florida State and Louisiana-Monroe<br/> <br/> Ole Miss: (1-1 vs real teams OOC and I am being generous including Memphis)<br/> -Beat Louisiana Tech, Memphis and Northwestern State (38-31 I might add)<br/> -They were thumped by Missouri (Missou held a 28pt lead at one point)<br/> <br/> Now that is the SEC West Division that LSU won by the skin of its teeth. What about the above rings to the tune of above questioning?<br/> <br/> SEC West Standings<br/> LSU (2) 6-2<br/> Auburn (22) 5-3<br/> Arkansas (25) 4-4<br/> Mississippi State 4-4<br/> Alabama 4-4<br/> Mississippi 0-8<br/> <br/> I'm sorry for not drinking the annual SEC Kool-Aid. The media was saying before we had a single ball kicked off that the SEC was clearly the best conference. I was waiting for the on-field results. I'm not so sure that its clearly better than the others. In fact, it has been quite suspect. The only thing labeling it 'awesome' at this point was the incredibly close, high scoring games that took place. Those use to be the reasons for saying the Pac10 sucks.</r>
Corey, you could do a similar analysis of any conference in this strange season. But you choose to take on the SEC. LSU was second in both polls, second in the composite computer standings and has been installed as a favorite. But you choose to call the SEC Suspect. It is certainly your right to feel that way. As it is my right to say I still think you've lost all objectivity.
and <t>I think you would agree, that a whole lot of vote changing and politicking were going into these final polls.<br/> <br/> They jumped from #7 to #2 and weren't even the most impressive team on Conference Championship Saturday.. (that award goes to Oklahoma).<br/> <br/> Their divisional opponents have 'big' wins against the likes of Kansas State (seriously, who on that list is better?) and losses to the likes of Louisiana-Monroe.<br/> <br/> Yet I am not objective for not seeing that as 'suspect?' Fair enough then.</t>
That's a bad resume for the SEC West to be sure but LSU sure did waste #3 in BCS Va Tech. In the East you can knock Tenn for losing to Cal as they did ( I did too) but Ga had a good win over OkST and Fla blasted Sun Belt conference finalists Troy and FAU by huge scores and then got revenge for their SEC brother Bama by crushing FSU. It's a mixed bag and the bowls will tell us more.
Yes Corey LSU jumped from 7the to 2nd in the last poll. You look at it that they didn't deserve to make the jump, I look at it that they should have never been ranked that low to start with and it was corrected in the end.
2 things <r><QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> stop. seriously. stop. that does not improve your resume unless you're willing to put Hawaii in the NC game right now<br/> <br/> TB,<br/> <br/> Listening to that video you provided.. Herbie has been consistent. He wanted Michigan last year for the same exact reasons he wants LSU this year. He was campaigning for LSU as soon as the spot opened up on ESPN.</r>
well Bill <r><QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> yes they should have been that low. they had just lost, again, after being put in the driver's seat for the 2nd time this season.<br/> <br/> the voters have now placed them in the driver's seat for a 3rd time. Has that ever happened?</r>
LSU had 11 FBS wins, was 4-0 against BCS ranked teams, and played the #24 schedule. Oklahoma had 11 FBS wins, was 3-0 against BCS ranked teams, and played the #39 schedule. VaTech had 10 FBS wins, was 3-2 against BCS ranked teams, and played the #3 schedule.
yawn <t>those rankings are weighted by the rankings of the opponents.. opponents like Arkansas..who had lost to damn near every good team they played until LSU.<br/> <br/> I really didn't realize just how bad many of the schedules were this year until I took a look the other night.</t>
corey this guy's got it right, atleast the way I see it... (Reply) Herbstreit '06: "Who are the top teams in college football" Herbstreit '07: "It's not about who the top teams are, the most DESERVING teams should play for the NC" You're a hypocritical joke, Herbstreit. You just lost all credibility you had with me. My problem is there is no consistency. The rules change every year. It's a popularity contest. Now does UGA deserve a shot at NC? Not IMO. But neither does Ohio State or LSU. But that's not the point here. The point is how their opinion changes from minute to minute based on who they pull for.
.. <r><QUOTE><s> </e></QUOTE> I agree with you 100%. There are some people/teams out there who will have to prove everything before a chance is given to them, there are others who only get 1 chance, and there are others who have it handed to them.<br/> <br/> This system was designed to benefit those who sold out tradition in favor of the 'super conference.' This system still does that. The Pac10 gets slighted for not having a conference title game, but only Lou Holtz had the IQ/integrity to mention that the Pac10 plays a true round robin schedule. While the other conferences added a noncon (usually a patsy) with the addition of the 12th game, the Pac10 added an extra conference game.<br/> <br/> Yet once again, I heard the fact that USC didn't play in a conference title game used against them.<br/> <br/> That's dishonesty at its finest.<br/> <br/> There is only two ways to look at it. Either they are ignorant of the conference setups and history, and talking out of their arse.... OR they are clearly playing favorites to push forth their agenda.. In either even, how in the world did these people get this much power and why do we listen to them?</r>
Here's another good point someone made on another forum... if you ought to win your conference to be in the BCS, what about ND who has no conference to win? I'd like to ask all the talking heads to go on record that since ND can't win a conference (and won't join one) shouldn't they be disqualified from ever playing in a BCS Championship?
better arguement <r>why join a conference at all?<br/> <br/> of all the former independents, who has truly gained from joining one. Only the BCS system who gained 'legitimacy' by bringing the majors together<br/> <br/> better question than that....<br/> <br/> what benefits have the Pac10 or Big10 reaped from joining the BCS?<br/> <br/> Too many fans in the super conferences are busy worrying about ND and different 'enemies' out there when the real enemy is the cash grab system called the BCS.<br/> <br/> Untill <B><s></s>EVERY TEAM IN DIVISION I<e></e></B> is a member of the BCS, its all one big campaign battle for Prom Queen between the Super Conferences.<br/> <br/> The 'make ND join a conference' arguement is silly given there are entire conferences that need perfect seasons and still require miracle upsets in the BCS conferences just to have a hope of a sniff of a BCS bowl game.<br/> <br/> Which is a shame because they have continually done well in these games.</r>
