It looks as if we are moving towards flag football if the players are to obey the new rules!!! I was appreciating the ejected player turning around and looking at the ref and saying that was a ******** call...
I think the Huskers win this. I'm bothered by the heart (or lack thereof) I see from Mora's kids and all anyone is talking about is 'who is going to the draft?' Injuries pretty much gutted the defense, but they at least had heart. This reminds me of a Butch Davis team.
Congratulations, AJ. I picked UCLA in the pick'em pool because of the comparative records, but I'm glad to see a Big 10 win. Let's not forget that Nebraska dealt MSU, a final 4 team, its only loss. Corey, JO'Co, and Rick won't want to hear this, but based on the results of this game, the Pac12 reputation for weak defense remains intact.
Good win AJ, Huskers needed that win to go into the off season on a positive note. Like Sid I also picked UCLA.
Mora's UCLA teams have a serious heart issue IMHO. That's an unpopular opinion among Bruin nation so I keep it to myself. At the start of the season, their defense looked much different because they had a handful of guys who are special, and will be on Sundays. The problem seems to be that once those special players went down, there was no replacing them in terms of talent, heart or leadership. This team gave up 38 points to Arizona State and 56 to Stanford. They lost 3 of their last 4 and I honestly have no idea how they beat Utah. Nebraska was just a better team, period.
Thanks guys.... (1) Good game plan...This NU team was built to run the FB, and Langsdorf called a good game doing that (62 rushes, 326 yards to just 19 passes) but I think that the film room showed that UCLA was very suspect to the run, so that was the plan. (2) POB (Patrick 'Obrien) comes in next month, 6-4 225 Pro Style QB outa San Juan Capristrano? Riley's/Langsdorf kid. Show's that they say they understand the culture here, but it's obvious that they're going to implement their system no matter... (3) Tommie Armstrong will be pushed hard by this kid....obviously there wasn't much of a competition pool this year....but there is now. (4) Recruiting will be interesting after the dead period....1620 am here is a huge recruiting source....we still have 4 and 5 star folks on the table....plus the kid (SS) that decommitted from USC was at the bowl game practices for NU in Santa Clara, that's good news, but it's like any year, kids can flop the day before signing day. (4) We need DE's like it's cool....plus a new nose guard, Malik Collins opted for the draft. OL and, receivers, and a RB are already being courted. (5) In the B1G, you have to run the ball, but I don't think a team today could do that the majority of the time, and be able to win/be successfull in the B1G, like the Huskers of old. It will be interesting to see if Riley's Offensive theory will fit, and be effective in the next few years. Year 2 will be very stressfull for him I can guarantee if we don't vastly improve. (6) Corey and Jim said a year ago that the Riley hire wouldn't dissapoint anyone at NU....I'm willing to still believe that for now because of what Bo left in the cupboard...NOTHING. (7) TBC.....
Something to take note of: With all the heart breaking losses Nebraska had this year, Riley never lost the team. Given the poor chemistry and infighting that was taking place less than a year ago, that's rather incredible. Riley isn't a Dennis Erickson who will bring in a **** ton of one and done JUCOs who never attend class. He's a Bear guy. He'll create a smart football culture among the team that Nebraska fans haven't seen since Dr Tom. He wins the right way. He will always love to run the ball. Even at Oregon State, he'd have some 6'4" kid chucking the damn thing all over the place, but he'd still commit to having that 100 yard rusher in each game.
